Which bottle?

I'm trying to decide which bottles to register for, there are so many.  I'm planning to breastfeed but will need to also use a bottle when the baby goes to daycare.

Any recommendations? Has anyone used Tommee Tippee?

Re: Which bottle?

  • I recommend something with a wide base so its more similar to you.. I used Avent with Ava but Aubrey didn't like that so we used BreastFlow and she did great with those..

  • Neena took the playtex drop-ins the best. She hated the breastflow. I've heard great things about Tommy Tippees.

  • I used Avent in the beginning with Sophia and then switched over to the Medela bottles that came with my pump.  With Collin we have only used the Medela and he goes back and forth just fine.

We use the Tommy Tippee sippy cups and like them, but I haven't tried the bottles.

  • We used medela and Lyla loved them. You can also pump directly into them.
  • I also used the Medela bottles and they were so convenient.  I used Medela for a long time, even when I was done BF'g, and then I eventually found the Soothie bottles, and DD ended up liking those, too.  She wouldn't take the Avent, Dr. Brown's, or any others that I had tried.
  • I second the recommendation for wide bottles, whatever brand you get.

I didn't register for any because I didn't have any clue. My cousin had a baby 4 months before I did and tried just about every bottle there is, so she sent me one of each to try. Until we picked one, I just stuck a nipple on the Medela bottles that I pumped into.

We ended up buying the Nuk bottles. I think it helped that the nipples were the same shape as his pacifier. They also didn't tend to drip as bad if he left one laying. Not terribly expensive either.

We had some Dr. Brown's wide ones, too. While they were fine and I really didn't mind cleaning all the parts, the nipple was too flexible and if he pushed the bottle out of his mouth, milk would go spraying everywhere.

  • We used Dr. Browns with no issues.  I know a lot of people say 'the baby picks the bottle' but we never really had issues with any that we tried.  Seemed like it was 6 one way, half dozen the other.

So wow, halfway there!  Are you going to find out the gender?  I'm nosey ;)

  • We got a few different kinds, like one of five or six different brands, and used them until we found one we liked.  We ended up using the Breastflow, and loved them.  DS1 had issues learning to BF and had some issues, so got some formula and pumped milk right away and got used to the easy flow nipples and then wouldn't "work" at BFing.  So the BF bottles made it so he had to work all the time and then it got easier for him to BF.  But I suggest registering for a few different kinds, in small amounts so you can try them out, and then later use some gift cards to stock up.
