advice: money for a friend?
I have a friend that lives out of state. She works really hard, but can't ever get a good paying job bc of her field.
She was recently accepted to the Peace Corps and she has to get all of these physicals and shots before she leaves. She doesn't have benefits through work and is paying for everything out of pocket.
I really want to help her our and give her some money for the doctors exams and shots, but I don't know if there's a right way to do this.
I really want to do it anonymously bc I don't want her to feel like she owes me anything.
Is this a good idea? How can I do it?
Re: advice: money for a friend?
Off hand? I can't think of an anonymous way to do this that won't eventually, somehow, get found out and maybe make her more sad or apologetic later.
Maybe you can get together with some other friends of hers? And put together a joint friendship fund and give it to her like that in lieu of like a night out before she goes off to wherever the Peace Corps takes her?
this is a good idea - I think it would show you guys care about her and want to support this adventure. You could just send her money and say "I heard about this amazing opportunity and wanted to support this trip" or something, I can't think of a better word. Anyway, it doesn't have to say anything about knowing she can't afford stuff, I mean, you don't get paid in the Peace Corps do you? Unless it was a rich friend who had time to kill, I think most people would appreciate financial support.

all of this. instead of giving her money directly for the medical bills, can you (and other friends) buy her a grocery store gift card or something, that way she wouldn't have to spend money on groceries, and can use that money toward the dr.
