brainstorming KOTB (schooling)

question

1. are you doing public, private, or charter? and why?

2. If charter or private, did you or will you choose a school close to work or close to home?

thanks!

  • public for both of them, and we've been very happy.
  • Public. Possible private kinder since her birthday is in Nov

  • Public.  Going into our 8th year and no issues.

  • Private.  We love it.  She needed to do either private or a Kindergarten transition program and the pickings were slim out here.  She tested in early to Kindergarten and is now in 2nd grade.  We love it and hope to continue to be able to send her to private school.

  • The plan is private through 8th grade.  We get a decent discount because the school is part of the church we go to.

  • She's in private preschool right now and will stay until she starts kinder.  We moved over to SBISD because of the great public schools, so likely she'll be in public all through her school career...but I'm not totally discounting private school at all.

  • Public school for our kiddos

  • Public, it is a lot cheaper and we are zoned to a great elementary school.  Once she hits middle, we will have to do private.  But I am guessing we will have moved by then.

  • We just started private kindergarten and, God willing, we plan to stay private til at least 8th grade.

  • As long as our finances stay where they are, we will be doing private.  Honestly, I would prefer public since we are in a good school district, but trying to argue against my DH, MIL, and my mom was futile.  They all want him to go to Catholic school.  We are looking at one school that is not too far away from us and then one in the Briar Forest area which is about 20-30 min away (but close to my DH's work).
  • Public all the way.
  • Private, at least through middle and then we will evaluate their education needs again. The HS at the private school we have chosen is very small (20 kids/class) and might not work for them when they get older.

We have great public elementary schools in our neighborhood, plus school lottery in HISD, but we have issues with certain parts of the public education system period and as long as we can afford private to avoid those, we will.

School location was not as much a priority as the overall school.

  • Public unless something severe happens that makes me want to pull her out of that environment.

  • public......unless the demographics totally change..which i don't think they will...(meaning so long as i feel my kids will be safe).....i know the teachers in the area schools...and i know they are great!......

i want my kids to be the best that they can be wherever they are....and at this point i don't see curriculum wise/teacher quality to be any better in private or charter...

i want teachers who are up to date with current curriculum/have the ability to work with a diverse group of students...(i think the private schools in my area lack this)...i also want teachers with resources available to them (i think charter schools in my area lack this)

  • DS will be in private for K - 5 for sure.  It's really more about class size for me than anything. He will only have 8 kids in his class so I know that he will get more individual attention.  I also really like our school's hours.  We only go M-Th so that leaves Fridays for me to take him places and give him experiences outside of the classroom.
