condom.

so my husband got this like rash in his penis he thinks its because of the condoms? do any of you know what the symptoms are or has any of you gotten a condom allergy??

Re: condom.

  • If he's getting a rash on his penis he should see a doctor.
  • He needs to go see a doctor and you guys need to not have sex until he finds out what it's from.

A condom rash would be from a latex allergy or an allergy to the lubricant (if it's lubricated) but this usually would only happen if you switched brand/ type of condom recently.

  • Ummm... how long has he used condoms? I mean, yeah, allergies can develop suddenly but I'd be more inclined to think STD. He should probably get tested (you should too) and no sex until the results are in.
  • he has been using them for a year?? its the same brand but the box and the drawing looked diferent? if it were an std what kind of std would it be??
  • People develop latex allergies over long-term exposure to latex, so to hear that he has a rash suddenly makes me think that it definitely could be a latex allergy. Or if he used a new brand, it could be the spermicide.

STD's do not normally cause a rash on the penis; you would see more of discharge or pain with urination. Possibly itching and rash around the pubic hair area, but not on the penis itself.

I would have him have allergy testing for latex.

  • Ya it's probably an allergy he could have sensitive skin. I would wait for it to clear up and switch your brand/style of condom. Other condoms make me really irritated after sex so I have to use Trojan sensitive condoms.

  • He should definitely see a doctor. I had issues using certain brands. Even if the box was different, companies change their packaging all the time. It's also possible that something else in it - the lubricant, etc was changed

  • All the other ladies that have posted except for one has suggested a latex allergy. Try using a polyurethane condom for a week if you decide to have sex and see if the rash is still present. But of course this is AFTER the rash clears.
  • I'm a nurse and normally I wouldn't assume a "rash" is related to an STD in a male. I would assume a latex allergy. He needs to go see a doctor. I wore two different MAC eye shadows for a few years and then all of the sudden I had allergic reactions anytime I wore them. It's not uncommon to suddenly develop an allergy.

  • MH got a rash on his penis a few months after we started dating and it ended up being the first sign of psoriasis.  He now has to wash with a special soap and was able to treat that particular rash with two special creams that we keep on hand for future outbreaks which have now popped up on his neck and back.

I've read that it is fairly common for men who have psoriasis, but have had no sign of it, to have their first outbreak on their penises.

Could also be an allergy, but getting an STD test wouldn't be a bad idea either.  I think it's as simple as going to see a dermatologist and he'll get an answer.  GL!
