Checking In (Some BR)

Hello ladies! I feel like I haven't been around in forever, though I do try to check in occasionally.  Usually just often enough to be REALLY confused as to what is happening in everybody's life!

So, we made it down to Florida, obviously. (Bethany, sorry I didn't get in touch.  But we wouldn't have been able to stop)  The journey was not quite what we expected, but what in life ever is!  We had planned to be packed up and leave first thing Monday morning.  We didn't end up getting out of apartment until almost 9pm on Monday and ended up staying the night with DH's Aunt and Uncle.  We left Tuesday at around noon (getting out with a baby and 2 cats was HARD) and headed to the MIL in NC.  We got there in good time and had a nice evening.  We left her house at about 10 am and didn't even make it to the highway.  We broke an axle! Didn't end up leaving NC until 6pm, and spent the night in SC.  At this point, it was Thursday morning.  We had planned to be either well into FL or at my parent's place already! We left the hotel in SC at 7am and were determined to make it to my parent's place that night.  17 hrs later, we got there.  I have no idea what made us think moving with a newborn would be easier then moving before he was born, but boy were we wrong! NEVER NEVER NEVER going to do that again.

Things have been okay since we've been in FL.  We are both still looking for jobs (T&Ps, job dust, etc appreciated).  DH has had 2 interviews, 1 offered the job with a complete lowball salary, and the other ended up filling the position internally.  I am holding off on really searching until after he finds a job and we have a better idea of where we'll end up living.  And I am kind of hoping he'll make enough that I can SAH with the little guy!

Speaking of B, he is doing wonderful! He has more than doubled his birth weight and grown over 5 inches.  My little man who was below birth weight until he was 3 weeks old, has definitely made up for lost time, he was 13lbs, 4.5oz at a sick visit this past Sunday.  He is 16 weeks old today.  Unfortunately, B does not sleep.  More accurately, doesn't nap.  He sleeps okay (not great) at night.  During the day he fights sleep with every fiber of his being. He will take 15-20 minute cat naps when we can get him to fall asleep unless we let him sleep on us, then its about 45-60 minutes.  So I am running on almost no sleep.  Fortunately DH is home also, as well as my Dad most days.

I know last time I checked in I was stressed/a complete mess about B's feeding.  Through a combination of herbs and Rx meds (fenugreek, blessed thistle, goat's rue, and domperidone) I have been able to nurse at almost a full supply.  He gets between 2 and 12 oz of formula a day depending on his hunger and my supply.  It is still a daily emotional struggle for me.  I feel like I've fought tooth and nail for every ounce of breastmilk he's had and sometimes I simply don't know if I can continue fighting.  The domperidone has been causing some side effects in me that aren't great, but I can live with.  I just really struggle day to day with whether or not it is worth it.  I am starting to think I am going to have to keep with it though because he is starting to refuse formula unless he is absolutely starving.  As of this past Sunday, he started rice cereal (1 tsp 2x daily) because no matter how much he nursed or how many bottles he drank, he was still hungry.  He LOVES the cereal! I've never seen a baby take to it so well the first time.  As of today, he also started bananas.  He seemed unsure at first, but was happy to keep trying.  Any words of encouragement for all of B's stuff is much appreciated!

I will try to be more active again.  Hopefully he will learn to actually nap so my days aren't 100% him anymore.

Hope everyone else is doing well.  My T&Ps are will all the ladies who have been having some hard times lately.

Re: Checking In (Some BR)

  • Sounds like quite the adventure to get down to FL. I hope you both (or just your H) get the perfect job, whichever ends up working out better for you all. I was so happy when I saw on FB your post about B's gain. I hope things get easier, Alex was/is a sleep fighter, and it's rough to say the least. Good luck settling in to all aspects of your new life.
  • Glad to hear from you and get an update on the move and on Baby B.  Sounds like he's in a great place gaining great weight and growing like a weed!  You're doing a great job, Momma.
  • Glad everything is going well for you all. I hope a job comes your way soon. I know how hard the waiting game is when job searching is going on. I am glad B is doing great! Tessa was a nap fighter up until she was about 6 or 7 months old and I have finally been able to get her on a routine with morning naps and the same afternoon nap as her brother. I hope he starts napping for you soon.
  • What a busy past month or so!  I'm glad to hear you moved safely and breastfeeding is better.  Job dust sent your way =)
