taken from a thread on what's cooking...do you actually like your first name?
i honestly dont care for mine too much. growing up there were just way too freakin many jennifer's. in 4th grade there was 5 of us...way too many! so i started going by jen. not jenn, jennie, or jenny. i still prefer jen over jennifer on any given day. plus, w/ my married name jennifer is just way too freakin long and jen look / sounds better w/ it. i get super annoyed when i introduce myself as jen and they proceed to call me jennifer..."um hello i didnt say jennifer i said jen!" plus, i get annoyed when people spell my name wrong...as in jenn. to top if off my middle name was michelle...my parents gave me such a common name, ugh! growing up i wished that was my first name since that's less common but no such luck. now it's dropped from my name so it worked out i guess.
Re: first name - like? dislike?
I think mine is too common. In school I atleast always had another Jessica in the classroom. I really only go by Jess now. Most people call me that automatically, which is a good thing.
Remember when someone here on the board did that thing where you could see what your name ranked by your birth year and name and mine was number one, so obviously there were alot of Jessica's.
Im a Jessie but alot of people call me Jess automatically, I don't mind either way. I hate being called Jessica, to the point I will ignore people if they call me it. I don't mind my name.
I use to not like my name, there were a lot of Christine or Kristen(and such) growing up. Now I don;t really mind it. I have alway been Christine though never Chris. I use to get really mad when people would call me Chris as I have gotten older I have gotten over it and don't correct them.
Unlike Emily I always hated that my middle name was Anne. I felt everyone's middle name was ann(e) or marie(A). This is why I was very anti middle names for a while and was not going to give my daughter a middle name. This has since changed B will have my mom's name as her middle.
I don't mind my name. I just don't really like when people I don't know very well, or don't like, call me Rach.
I also HATE when people spell my name Rachael. My name is Ray-chul, not Ray-chay-el.
The bolded is amusing because I get the opposite. I make sure I introduce myself as Jennifer (and sign emails and such this way), and people always shorten it to Jen. And if I have to have it shortened, I prefer Jenn. IL's can't/don't have a hard J in their vocab, so they pronounce it different. Mildly annoying, but I've decided not to give any of my children a "J" name.
I'm alright with my name. There weren't a ton of Jennifer's around me growing up, so that might have something to do with it.
I don't mind it, I never really think about it. It's just me. hahaha.
I'm Stephanie Michelle after my dad, Stephen Michael. But then they had a boy and he's Stephen Michael. THAT annoys me. Too many SMMs, I had my dad's car payment and mortgage on my credit report one time, and he had some of my stuff on his. PITA.
I actually really like my first name; Courtney. I don't know anyone else personally with that name, and there was only one other girl with it in my school, and she took special classes because she had a severe disability so we were never in the same room together.
My middle name is Marie, which is very common, but I think it goes very well with my fn and like it pretty well.
I went to school with a Rachael (but it was pronounced Ray-chul) who always got mad when people mispelled her name. She had a sister named Lindy and their mom also got mad when people would call her Lindsay. At the height of Lindsay popularity. Duh.

I don't like my first name, Deborah. Ugh...it sounds so old. I've always been called Debbie since elementary school and it stuck.
I can't say I dislike my middle name Dolores because I was named after my grandmother. Funny story, one of my friends in high school made a joke about the name Dolores. In spanish it means pains. I told her um, that's my middle name. We had a good laugh about it.
I wonder what our kids will say about the names we give them?
I always liked my sister's name better (Sarah Elizabeth), but didn't hate Laura. Just didn't particularly like it. I always pretended my name was Jessica when we would play dress-up. I hated my middle name (Emily) for a very, very long time. I don't know why, even. Now I'm fine with it, although I don't really think my names 'go' with each other.
My mom didn't know she was having twins, so she only had one name picked out. My name was a spur-of-the-moment thing, and I think growing up I didn't like my name because I resented that, since my sister got the 'real' name and she was the favorite, while I was the afterthought. I'm over it now, though!
Hold the phone...you're a twin? I didn't know that.
Whoa! Did not know this! I knew you had a sister, but not a twin sister!
As for my name, I like my first name a lot. My middle name is Marie, so it's pretty generic and my mother, grandmother and great aunts (only women in the family) all have it. I LOVE my last name. If I were to change to my husband's name, I would be Firstname Lastname Husbandname. I can do w/o the Marie.
The Princess of Anything is Coming!
Had a dream I was queen.
Woke up. Still queen.
This was, and I guess still kinda is but technology is much better now, Greg more than my fear. Just the not knowing till other child pops out. I actually very much wanted twins as long as I knew I was having them.
Also very cool that you are one. I always wanted to have a twin.
meh...I do't love my name Alicia, but I don't hate it either.
Recently I've started appreciating it more but ONLY in it's true pronunciation. I never understood why people got annoyed when others mispronounced their name till I realized that most Americans can't say my name right.
They mostly say, Alisha or Aleeshia. My name is pronounced Ah-lee-see-yah.
The British pronunciation is my favourite. They say Ah-lis-see-yah.
