Moms homemade baby food

Any of you make your own baby food? I have  ALOT of pears from my mom and am going to do that too. Also she has plenty of sweet potatoes and apples (she made him some apple sauce and he loves it)! Just want to save some money! I would like any tips thanks!

Re: Moms homemade baby food

  • pears- peel, chop, steam, puree, freeze. You can add formula/water/bm to thin it out, but they are pretty thin when pureed. Anders loved them mixed with apple puree, and when he was ready, mixed withh oatmeal. Small cubes are good finger food when softened-quick steam.

sweet potatoes- either same as above, or you can bake and mash. Also, good first finger food when softened.

  • meghan summed it up. i would make sure that he likes the food before you make a huge batch of it. i didn't with my first batch and ended up throwing a bunch out because eli refused to eat it. also the website

is a great resource on making your own baby food.

  • I would recommend getting a few things from your grocery store's salad bar and pureeing those to so he can try them out.  It might take a couple tastings before he decides that he likes them.  That way you know if he will eat it or not before you make a bunch.
