Headed back to the pediatrician....

AGAIN! Hopefully nothing serious, but we will see. Ellie's umbilical cord stump fell off on Tuesday and I called and talked to the nurse because it was really bright red underneath and oozy Sad The nurse said that was OK as long as it wasn't bleeding a lot and there was no bad odor or redness in the surrounding skin because those are the signs of infection. She said just to keep it clean, still no 'real' baths and it should be fine in a day or so. The redness faded to 'brown' within 24hrs. Well I thought that was that and it would heal fine, but it's still oozing just enough to rub onto her clothes. The tissue in the center of the belly button that was bright red is now very scabby looking....nothing like healed skin. When I told the nurse it was still oozing today, she was like, That's not good, bring her in tomorrow morning! She said sometimes they have to cauterize it! Sad Pray with me we don't have to do that!

  • Poor E. I hope it is a simple solution and doesn't have to be cautherized. Let us know.

  • Ouch. Poor Ellie. Hopefully it will be nothing. We thought we were going to have to cauterize hers too, but hers fell off after only a week!!! But it ended up healing itself.

  • Well, we had a good appt. The doctor said she thinks that the stump fell off too early, probably got caught on her shirt or something. So the yucky scabby part that is oozy is another piece of stump that should dry up and fall off also. She said it is taking a while and looks yucky, but there is no sign of infection, so no big worries. Still no 'real' baths until this dries up/heals completely. We have our 1 month appt on the 29th, so if it hasn't fallen off by then they might cauterize it with silver nitrate.

Best news is that she's broken the 8 lb mark, YAY! 8lbs 1oz today! The doctor was very happy with that. Also, while there on the table she pooped, peed and spit up so the doctor was very tickled that all her systems are working normally now, LOL!

Worst new: insurance is screwed up? They've been processing our change to add Elena for over 2 weeks. All the claims are still going in as 'BABYGIRL" instead of her name but the insurance has been covering it. Well today our card came up as 'inactive' when they ran it, so something has happened. I'm a little worried because it's been so long and we only have 31days to add her, so if they have to reprocess it they are going to have to move into high gear! I'll have to call tomorrow. Today I just had to sign waivers saying we would pay for the visit if the insurance didn't.

Geez, always SOMETHING! Still not complaining though....just happy to have a healthy girl!
