Thanks Wal-Mart

Thank you, wal-mart fabric cutting gal.

I really appreciate that you gave me an extra two inches of Heat & Bond Light this morning. I know you think you were doing me a favor since it was a new bolt and the end was taped down.  However, the tape was on the back, not the part that you actually use to fuse things together.  In your attempt to be kind, you then folded the H&B over, sticking the tape to the good side, which I nearly destroyed trying to unstick.  Thank goodness I didn't need it in a solid yard.

  •  Walmart cutting staff is about as knowledgeable as Joanns and that isn't saying much. LOL  I have to teach every single counter worker the correct way to cut fur so I don't lose six inches. I guess, I can't complain since they all work for minium wage.

  • I'm just cutting my first order of fabric that isn't solid Kona colors from fabric.com and I do have to say I'm not super impressed with them either- it is a good thing they give you at least 37" yards because their cuts take an inch or two away from the yardage with their crooked nature.  This is particularly apparent on very busy prints that are linear- like open circle dots- which I lost almost 3 full rows of evening out last night.

The only people near me who know how to cut are my LQS.  I've pretty much resigned myself to ordering an extra 1/4 yard.

I don't think I've ever bought fur... what's the correct way to cut it?

    I'm wondering this as well.
  • I'm glad to hear that it isn't just my local Joanns that can't cut a straight line to save their lives! That being said the girl in Acton (or is it Littleton) was super anal about getting the fabric flat and even before she cut.

  • Faux fur has net type fabric backing. Which you have to clip apart carefully. So you don't cut any of the fur. If you just chop thru with scissors the hairs get all choppy, uneven and shed everywhere. I hope that explains it. LOL Its easy to show someone in person. Next time your at the fabric store, look at the back of some faux fur and you'll see what I mean.  :)
