Breast lumps update

I met with the surgeon yesterday. The conclusions:

She's pretty sure that they are fibroadenomas (benign tumors) but we won't know for sure until they are biopsied.

I'm having surgery on the 31st to have them removed and then they will be biopsied. I'll be out of work for 2 days and out of training for 1 week.

She also found a heart murmur that I've probably had my whole life. This is the first time I've been told about it so she said it likely comes and goes and that the high stress situation has made it obvious. I have to get an echo done just to have it documented. Other than that she said it's not a huge deal.

So there it is. Surgery. I was expecting this and I'm really just glad that we have a plan in place. So fingers crossed that they're benign. Thank you ladies for all the support and kind words. I really appreciate them.

Re: Breast lumps update

  • That's good news. I'm happy to hear your having it taken care of so quickly. I'm sure it'll be no big deal just like the Dr said.

  • I was just thinking about you and all this just a little while ago today. Glad you know what the next step is and can move forward. I will be hoping that they are benign. Healthy T & Ps.

  • That is good news!  I hope that the surgery is textbook and that the doctor's suspicions are confirmed that it is benign.  Sending you lots of healthy vibes!
  • I'm glad to hear there's a plan in place. Sorry you're having to deal with this though :( I also have a heart murmur that I've had my whole life, it's due to a ventricular septal defect. It's just never closed up for some reason but I'm always told that it doesn't pose any threat to me.
  • I'm so glad that they believe they are benign, I wish you a fast and easy recovery from surgery and that the Drs suspicions are correct. Also, it is probably a good thing they found out about the heart murmur as well so later on if there are any complications it is already known about.

Not to scare you, but recently a girl whom I work with collapsed at work. Went to the hospital and was in critical condition for a week. Come to find out she had a heart murmur since birth and it was not known about, due to her potassium levels dropping as well as some other circumstances it caused her to go into cardiac arrest. Luckily they were able to put in a defibrillator and they believe she should have no other problems now. So long story short it is great your Dr detected it now rather than later when it was causing problems.

  • Good luck to you!  I am sure it's going to be nothing more than a scare.  Keep us posted :)

  • I think many of these doctors are oblivious to how they come across to patients.  They are scaring everyone and that's just mean.
