DH and I have been wanting to redo our kitchen (it's pretty awful) but don't want to over improve for our neighborhood. We're seriously considering an IKEA kitchen.
Does anyone here have experience with IKEA kitchens? We know they aren't going to be the highest quality, but are they relatively durable? Anything to stay away from?
We can do the demo and painting and finishing touches but really want someone to do the installation, flooring, lighting, etc. Osprey Bay is the company IKEA uses and the guy in store was really nice and seemed to know his stuff, but we're not finding much online about them. We found one really good review on a blog and the only two on Angie's List are horrible. Any experiences?
I'm going to post this on Decorating & Renovating as well. Thanks!
Re: Ikea Kitchens and/or Osprey Bay remodelers?
we had ikea cabinets installed by osprey last year. i *love* the cabinets. we've got some glass front on top, 2 of the taller cabinets (one with pull out drawers & the other with shelves) and counter in between (this creates kind of a butler's pantry). Our cabinets are solid wood (unlike what i suspect are partical board in our kitchen) and are great. eventually we'll redo the kitchen & use ikea cabinets...i really like them that much!
as far as osprey bay goes, the installers were great but communication with the company on the whole was a mess. not sure if i was an outlier but i had a hard time getting my project manager to call/email me back & then, randomly, got a call basically saying they were ready to install...starting the next morning! maybe b/c w were such a small job? I dunno. It wasn't so terrible that I would never use them again, though.
a couple girls on D&R have redone kitchens in IKEA cabinets and have nothing but great things to say !
IKEA has come a long way in its development - their kitchens, in the Woodbridge store, look really nice and have a lot options for storage.
I've heard good things about IKEA.
But, I've also heard good things about Cabinets to Go: http://www.cabinetstogo.com/
A friend bought from there instead, because they are real wood at a similar price. She didn't use their installers, though. Her kitchen looks AWESOME.
