Travel to the Azores
Hi guys,
Has anyone been to the Azores? We're thinking of going early October for a few weeks (from the US). We'll have DD with us, too. I haven't done a ton of research yet but wanted to pick your brains since we have a lot of experienced travelers on here.
Do you think it's best to stick with one island or should we see a few? We're interested in seeing some sights but also relaxing and wandering the towns, markets, etc. Best city/island to use as a "base camp"? Any recs? Thanks!

It's been a while but I've been to Azores (I've got family there). Sao Miguel is the biggest island & where most flights go into (Ponta Delgada) so that would probably make the most sense as a "base camp". Inter island ferries were how I got around but that was almost a decade ago. I know they also have flights between some of the islands (Faial I know of for sure) but am unsure of the cost.
I grew up in an area with a lot of Portuguese folks (my dad's family included) & there are flights out of Boston to Punta Delgada during the summer; not sure about October though. I think it's TAP (Portuguese airline) that runs them; otherwise you'll have to fly into Lisbon & backtrack, I would suggest talking to someone @ America Travel (401-434-4700) as they are known as the Azores experts & have been in business for decades.
