garden

Well my garden looks like it is in better shape than it was last year.  My basil is fantastic, and everything else looks like it is growing.  Ha ha ha.

For anyone with strawberries---mine have not grown yet.  Does this mean I won't get any this year?

Tomatoes: Just a few have started getting red.  Is that right?  I feel like it is late, and I am wondering if am too late again this year.

Re: garden

  • Hmm.. I have no idea about anything having to do with gardening. My mother grows tons of veggies though, and I love it. I don't like tomatoes, but I'll eat hers because they're delicious.

Did you see the crazy on TB (she's prob in 2nd tri now) who thinks that if you garden during your 1st tri then your baby will be gay? You can't make this sh!t up.

  • Nice!  When did you plant?  Strawberry season is usually in June so I'm not sure if you will get any this year.  I am going to plant some in a container for next year.  I hope it works.

We have a ton of tomato plants and they started getting red at the end of July.  Not all of our plants have produced red tomatoes yet, but they are producing green ones that keep getting bigger and bigger and I am assuming they will turn red eventually.  I would guess that yours are doing something similar.  Once your tomatoes start to turn red, you can pick them and they will ripen inside.  This lets the plant focus its energy on growing more tomatoes.

    Crying

I cannot fathom the amount of crazy that is on the Bump.  From the few random stories I hear here and there, it already boggles my mind.

I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

I planted everything Memorial Day weekend.  I think I might have been a couple weeks late?

Thanks for the tip about the tomatoes!

    I did see that.

There was all sorts of weird Bump craziness going on this weekend.  Why are there so many strange girls over there?

  • I planted Memorial Day weekend too so I think you are fine.  It might depend on the variety of tomato too.  Our early girls and big boys have been ripening but I don't think we've had a ripe beefsteak tomato yet.  It also could depend on how much sun they are getting.  This is my first year gardening so I am just trying to figure it out as I go along.

The Bump is out of control. Nest craziness pales in comparison. Just last week, a Bumpie that I "knew" was outted as a fake and she was impersonating a lawyer, presumably her own, as someone found out who she was IRL and was posting her mug shot all over the boards!
  • A house around the corner from us has a garden and most of their tomatoes aren't red yet. Not sure about strawberries.

We don't have a garden but our next door neighbor does. Their squash plant grew vines under their fence (very tall, wooden fence) into our yard and it is growing a squash in our yard. Smile

I planted Roma and Heirloom.  DH said something the other day about how maybe we didn't pick the best spot because they may not be getting enough sun so you might be right.

This is my second year, but last year everything was a disaster.  My tomatoes never turned red at all.  The basil was pathetic...and that was all that grew.  This year the tomatoes are growing.  The basil and the mint are growing well.  I planted some peppers that are coming in.  I also planted squash, but it is questionable.  The strawberry plants grew, but there are not any strawberries.  Ha ha ha.

Whoa!  That's one of the crazier AE stories I've heard!

Do you get to keep the squash? :)

For some reason, this gives me courage to try my hand at gardening next year.  I don't know, something about comfort in numbers I guess and knowing I might not be the only one without a crazy bounty :)

  • I think tomatoes need at least six hours of sun per day.  Our peppers are just starting to grow now, too.  I read that they like cold nights, and pretty much all of July was so hot that they really stalled.

The good news is that strawberries are perennials, so you might have them pop back up next spring with lots of fruit!

You should give it a try!  I just tried a couple of things last year, and it didn't really work out...but for sure I learned from my mistakes.  So this year is better, and hopefully next year will be even better!
