What kind of bed do you have?

Mine is currently a mattress ontop of a boxspring....sitting on the floor. DH says we need a bed frame & I need some inspiration. PIP your bed, or something similiar.

Re: What kind of bed do you have?

  • We have a king sized sleigh bed.  I loved sleeping in one at my mom's house but now - I wish I had a bed I didn't have to climb into.  I'd prefer a queen on a simple frame with a nice headboard but no footboard and just a bench at the end of the bed.

    Ours looks like this:

Modus Furniture International SB45S6 Santa Barbara Sleigh Bed - California King

And we have a big pillowtop mattress so the top mattress is even higher.  I'd like something like this or even lower:

  • We have a king size bed that we bought a plain metal frame for. I think we paid $40 or $50 for it.

I had grand plans to make something like this, but it hasn't happened. And now with a possible move, it's way at the bottom of the list.

    LOVE that headboard.
  • We have an awesome big huge king size farmers four posted bed.  It is a black distressed frame with gorgeous medium dark wood trim.  We just bought a new tempurpedic cloud supreme mattress last month and it is HEAVEN!!!!!!  I have always wanted a big four poster and we went into gallery to find something to house the tv in our room.  I saw the bed on clearance and just HAD to have it.

The headboard is like kimmer's but has a lighter wood trim on top.  This is simlar but the headboard is about 3x taller with the same square detail as this.  The posts are a bit more fancy.  image

After climbing in and out of our monster, this one looks like heaven to me.

You still have to climb up off of it. It is not an easy task. We had this bed a whole 6 months. Every morning when I got up, I would pinch the backs of my knees when going to stand up. Not fun. It is however a very cute bed, and very...sturdy.

  • we have this set from Coaster, in King size:

    http://www.greatpricedfurniture.com/products/51238560.html

i was skeptical at first about the quality, since it's so affordable, but we are very very happy with it.  we have foam mattress (also by Coaster) - it sits on a "bucky board" which is basically a wood platform that's only about an inch thick (it's covered in fabric, so it's not ugly).  the mattress is 10 inches so the bed is kinda high, but no climbing involved.  :)

we are very happy with this set-up.  we went to American Furniture - this rinky dink little store on south I-45 (just north of the beltway), and they gave us a fantastic price for the whole bedroom set and mattress, with delivery.

  • I am jealous of your high ceilings!

imageWe have the metal sleigh bed I bought 12 years ago. It was verdigris, but I painted it brown when I moved in with rrr. I'm very tired of it and we desperately need a grown up, matching bedroom set.  Looks something like this:

except I don't keep my electric guitar leaning up against it.

My dream bed was this handmade sleigh bed from simon pearce in vermont, but they don't seem to be making furniture anymore :(

  • We have this Valencia sleigh bed from Pottery Barn

    http://www.potterybarn.com/products/valencia-sleigh-bed/

It doesn't have a footboard, which is a necessity for my DH b/c his feet would hit it. We used to have a mattress and box spring on it, but it was very, very high so we took the box spring off and now it's just right. I still have to kind of hop in to it but I'm on the short side and have to do that on most beds.

Our current bed is a queen. We toss around upgrading to a king, but really don't want to spend the $ when our current bed is fine. If we do, we'll go for something like this:

  • We have a queen size sleigh bed.  I love our mattress, but it is tall.  I'm ok with it since I'm tall, but it was work when I was big pregnant.  Plus, it is impossible for Cooper to get on/off of without help.

We've also talked about a king, but we really don't need to spend the money - this one is still in great condition.

  • We have this bed in a king:

I love it, and it is affordable for Ethan Allen. I didn't want to do the big matchy-matchy set thing, but I am not creative enough to buy separate pieces that coordinate without matching (wish I was!). So we did this and then bought a dresser and two nightstands at the Star Outlet.

  • Our bed looks very similar to the 2nd pic michellebelle posted. We have a king and  our mattress set is the Stearns and Foster Camdenhurst 14"pillowtop. With the box spring and mattress the total height is about 19". I like our bed because it it sits high and it feels big.

  • We just went from a queen sleigh bed to a king size mattress at Christmas. A couple months later we got a metal frame from costco for $30. I just want an upholstered headboard, no footboard. The footboard just makes a crack for things to disappear into and for me to whack myself on.

I was going to attempt a diy headboard, but then i found this one at costco for just over $200, so diy doesn't seem worth it. Now if other stuff around the house would stop breaking and sucking up all my money I'd go buy it.

It's perfect because the height of the headboard looks great with our high ceilings, and the footboard is low enough so that making the bed isn't a hassle.
