Shannon had a spot on her arm before bed last night that I hadn't noticed even earlier in the day. The middle of the spot (about the size of a dime or a nickel) was brown, almost like a bruise that was healing. Surrounding the brown spot was a pinkish ring that I thought looked slightly raised/swollen, but DH disagreed on this point, thinking it looked pretty much flush to the rest of the skin. She said it hurt last night, so we made sure not to touch it, and put her to bed.
She had a couple full freak-outs during the night. She was nearly inconsolable, and screaming. But, we also saw my sister's nephew yesterday at the party, and she's had nightmares in the past after running into him during the day, so it could have just been that. I do my best to limit our encounters with that family because the two boys are monsters and even when they're playing well together, Shannon ends up having a rough night afterward. My sister only found out the night before that they were even going to be there this year... They'd told her weeks ago that they wouldn't be coming.
Now, back to the spot. This morning when she woke up, the center area looked more like raw meat -- red, slightly damp/clammy... The outside was still a ring of pink. She's been protecting her arm all morning, and still says it hurts to touch it. The center looks bigger than last night, too. But, it changed so much overnight that I called the pediatrician's office.
We'll be going in at 11 to have it checked out, because, while it could be nothing... on the off chance that it is something, we don't want to chance it. So, it'll be two days this week that we'll be at the pedi. Today for a sick visit, and Wednesday for Kyle's 15 month checkup.
I really hope that it ends up being nothing! I'll be sure to come back and post an update this afternoon.

Re: Heading to the pedi's office
Oh no! Hope it's nothing big and that Shannon feels better soon. And, those nightmares are awful! Hope they go away soon, too.
DH is taking Tynan to the pedi today, too. He also started showing signs of dehydration this morning, so we want to get him checked out and see if we should do more than just feeding him more breastmilk. He (and now I) caught a cold last week, too, and I'm worried that his sinuses and/or ears are infected at this point.
It took 5 failed IUIs and a failed IVF, but our FET worked!

Our baby girl was born on April 27, 2011!
The verdict is that Tynan is fine. He's got some post nasal drip from a cold, but nothing is infected, and he's not dehydrated. Apparently urate crystals mean different things to different doctors. When Tynan was 4 days old, it meant he was really dehydrated to that doc, and we were told to bottle feed him after each nursing session. But now the crystals means nothing to a different doc. I guess the doc today was condescending when Sean was trying to figure out why we were told it was dehydration the first time but not now. Neither of these docs was our regular pedi... we'll have to wait until tomorrow to get her opinion.
We love our regular pediatrician, but the docs in the rest of the practice might end up making us switch to somewhere else.
Hope Shannon's appointment went well!
poor S and you. Hope she is feeling better soon
LOL!!!
Good thing you took her in and started traetment. Not to scare you, but a freind's DD was bitten by spider last year and it became so infected by the time she went to dr that she had to be hospitalized. So it is a good thing took her in right away. I get so nervous after the situation with friend's DD.
