Anyone have Samsung front-loaders?

Are you happy with them?

The washing machine at our new house is straight out of 1984. I am DREADING doing laundry in it tonight. DREADING.

We have been thinking about holding out until Labor Day weekend to see what kind of sales there are, but I think I found a good deal on a Samsung set at Sears--which I'm hoping Lowe's will price match for us. $617 seems good, especially since it is not the absolute cheapest model, but a step up from that.

Thoughts?

Re: Anyone have Samsung front-loaders?

  • We got a really good deal on a Samsung set when we first moved in and we've been really pleased with them. We've had them for two years now and we haven't had any problems. I don't know if you've had front-loaders or not, but I just try to remember to always keep the washer door open and wipe the seal every so often so that the mildew smell is not an issue.

  • We have one and it's okay. Terrible for cloth dipes, though. Actually, all front loaders are. Top loaders clean them much better and I'm wishing we would've opted for a top loader. :-( Oh well.

Other than my complaint about dipes, the washer has been good. No issues and our clothes are clean. It has some great options and I especially love the sanitize option!

  • I love ours!  We've had ours a couple of years now, we got a good deal at Lowe's and took advantage of the free financing.

We did have one issue with our washer when it was less than a year old.  Customer service was great...they sent a technician out within a couple of days, and they ended up replacing the whole "computer" on the washer.  Turned out I was using too much soap, and the suds were getting into the computer.  Oops.

Like others said, I highly recommend wiping out the gasket and leaving the door open when you're done with laundry for the day...I usually just take a piece of the freshly washed laundry, wipe, and then throw it in the dryer. And I also recommend using Tide Coldwater - its a lot less sudsy and you won't cause the damage like I did.

     Good luck deciding!

  • We have Samsung front loaders we got a few years ago as part of a Sears pre-black Friday sale. I have no complaints. They experience the normal concerns of other front loaders (moldy/musty smell unless you leave the door open) etc. but we've enjoyed them.

I would check that the models at Sears and Lowes are the same. Often they're just enough different you can't price compete like that - we were originally thinking of doing the same thing! Hope it works out!

  • Thanks, all. I've always heard good things, but since we're getting close to pulling the trigger on a purchase, I'm getting nervous and feel like I need validation. LOL.

  • We have a (really old) Maytag front-loader.  Ours has a soak option.  We recently had a problem with smell because DH left a fish oil capsule in his pocket and I washed it.  To get the smell out, I ran an empty load of hot water with 1/4 cup white vinegar and 3/4 cup lemon juice and it really got the smell out.  I just added both in the detergent hole in the top.

I'm not if you could add a powder like baking soda, but I would probably try it if you think it will help with the CDs.

  • We have a set of Samsung front loaders and have had no problems! Just be prepared for a longer wash cycle. I was surprised by this when we got our front loaders. The shortest cycle is 46 minutes long. And for a heavy duty wash, you're talking a good hour and a half wash time. Other than that, we love them!
