Anyone ever rent a house prior to closing on it (not a rent to own situation)

We are relocating and have already sold our house. The buyers of our house want to close the end of September as they are in a lease situation. We woud like to close the 2nd week in October on our new house and are proposing to the seller of our new house to rent it from her for 10 days prior to our closing date. The house is vacant, we want to close in October as DH is starting a new job and it will make our lives signifigantly easier.

has anyone done this? We are proposing paying rent, security deposit etc.

  • Ask your agent.. Most companies have a lease back form that makes this situation pretty common!
  • We are doing this for almost 3 months.  We included the closing date and monthly rental rate in our purchase offer and we included them in the negotiations.  We signed the P&S with a signed lease included as an appendix.  We did not give a security deposit, but we do have a lot of earnest money down.  Our realtor had a basic lease that we were able to use b/c the owners were okay with it.  I was a bit surprised since it seemed pretty weak to me, but I wasn't going to raise any concerns if they were okay with it.
