I'm excited for Libya. I hope the revolutionaries can take over the rest of Tripoli easily and start moving towards a new government.
I think it's ridiculous that Ghaddafi has disappeared. They all seem to do this - run away. Mubarak did it in Egypt too, before he came back to formally cede power. These men have run dictatorships over entire countries for decades, but then they run and hide in times like this. It's so cowardly.
Anyone want to place bets on where Ghaddafi is? My money is on Chad.
Re: Yallah Libya!
Well, I hope it's Chad. Because then I can say, "Ghaddafi is hiding in 'The Chad' ", and that will amuse me.
I'm psyched too. I'm proud of our aid in this case as well.
LOL to the first bit.
I agree with the second bit. I think we did the right thing at the right time and on the right scale. I saw an interview this morning with a former British foreign minister who was asked, "Should NATO forces be on the ground in Libya during and after this transition."
He said absolutely not, which I also agree with. Both Egypt and Libya owe a certain amount of their current troubles to their colonial history and I think letting them figure out what will work for their people and their culture without our political involvement is exactly what's needed. I'm glad we helped when we could, but rebuilding their government has to be of their doing.
