DH thought of you ladies :)
Re: DH thought of you ladies :)
I would like to know if this manager was acting on her own beliefs or a company policy. After all, the article said she was a manager, not an owner. If the owner has made it store policy not to allow gay couples to buy dresses from them then you can't really hate on the manager. She would have just been doing her job. Would you risk being fired in the middle of a recession over something like this?
However, if the manager was acting only on her personal beliefs then she has awful business sense and shouldn't be in retail.

I agree with Panda's thoughts on if it's a company policy, but truly... if it is a policy, that's just dumb. Why on earth would you want to LOSE business in this economy? And, now... bring bad publicity to yourself.
Don't get me started on the fact that it happened at all.
That's so cute that your DH thought of us!
As for the article, that's ridiculous! If you own/manage a store, your job is to sell things. Turning away a paying customer, in this economy as a PP pointed out, shows poor business sense (at a minimum), not to mention that outing yourself as a bigot will probably not be good for business either.
The thing that just kills me about the gay rights/gay marriage debate is that we don't seem to learn from past mistakes. From a purely practical standpoint, I think about how much time/energy/money was spent decades ago to try to prevent interracial marriage by people who believed it to be immoral, who believed that it was against God's intentions, etc... There were hate crimes, injustices,etc.., etc... and all to what end? In the end, it was legalized, and life went on. I'm sure there are still people out there who don't agree with it, but it's nowhere near the hot button it once was. And guess what? In 40 years, (I hope) the same will be said about gay marriage. But, in the meantime, politicians spend lots of time (which we all know equals $$) debating the issue, time which could be spent the HUNDREDS of other issues in this country which need to be addressed. People are ridiculed, verbally assaulted, beaten, and even killed for their lifestyle "choices". And, all for what? To delay an inevitable decision for a few months/years?
Anyway, I'll get off my soapbox for now, but thanks for sharing the article!
I think it is a privately owned and operated store. So, I think it is not a company policy or anything just someone being obnoxious!
The comments on yelp are intereseting, too.
