Paging All Ladies Who Run
I have a couple of questions for you!
1) How do you motivate yourself to run? I like running when I'm actually running, but I can't seem to get my @$$ to the gym to do it. Or at least often enough to make some progress.
2) Can you recommend shoes? I've currently got some saucony cross trainers, but I don't think they're cutting it. And I've been hearing stuff about socks. I guess my cotton walmart socks aren't a good idea?
3) What do you wear while running in the gym? I've got a decent pair of shorts, but whatever freaking top I wear, it rides up.
(An unmatched left parenthesis creates an unresolved tension that will stay with you all day.

Re: Paging All Ladies Who Run
1. I have a dog that needs exercise or she gets cabin fever and won't settle down at night (plus she needs the challenge physically). I also know that I feel better once I start running (except in hot weather). Sometimes (although I haven't done this in a long time) you can set up a rewards system for yourself.
2. Go to a local running shoe store (not Sports Authority or sporting good store) and get fitted properly for shoes. You may be paying $100 or more for a pair but it's well worth it and helps you prevent injuries down the line. And no to 100% cotton socks, you need to get some that are moisture wicking so you don't get blisters (right, Shauni?). I love Balega brand and they are a little pricey but I have no complaints.
3. I wear running shorts (they come in different lengths) and a short sleeved running top that is a tech tee (you can get these at Target or Ross is a decent place to find workout tops). 100% cotton will make you overheat easily and trust me you don't want to wear or should need sweats when running.

1) my motivation has been races. first was a 5K and now the half. however, now that i run so often, after my half in october i know i will continue to do it. i mostly tell myself "it's beautiful out, go enjoy it by running in it!" or "what else would i be doing if i were not running? watching tv? being worthless? it's 30 minutes/1hour/etc that will make me feel better."
2) so i live in the boonies and do not have a running store to fit me. i had to go to olympia sports and just try on different running shoes until i got some i liked. but i agree with leo--if you can, go get fitted, i will DEF be doing that for my next pair, 2 hour drive there be damned! and running socks are a must, but to be honest, if you are not running long distances/for long time periods, i would say its not worth the money. when i was just running 2-6 miles a day i never got blisters. but now that i run 6-11 miles a day i do, so i just bought some (expensive) smart wool socks at $15/per pair.
3) i wear running tanks with running capris. lots of run stuff for summer is on sale right now. i always wore cotton tees but now i want to die thinking about wearing one for a run that will last more than 20 minutes. old navy has affordable tech clothes as does target.
Blog
1) There are days where I feel and look forward to running, but most days I have to push myself. Once I force myself to get dressed it is easier to get going. I am like Shauni, the run is only going to last 30 minutes, give or take, so if I didn't run I would probably be being useless.
2) First suggestion is to get fitted. I always look for light weight, very breathable, and ones that flex in the proper place for my foot. As for socks, I love my Asics running socks.
3) I usually Nike shorts or lululemon running crops and tech fabric tanks and tees. A wicking fabric is a must.
