Comcast vs. WOW

I am sure it's been asked 100 times on this board, but which do you prefer over the 2 cable providers..

We currently have Comcast and are getting charge stupid amounts for what we have. I called and asked to get it lowered and they told me there was nothing they could do. So I called WOW and basically for the same services we are getting from Comcast I can pay almost $75 less with WOW.

We have never had WOW so I am curious how it compares to Comcast...

Re: Comcast vs. WOW

  • LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE WOW!!!!

We switched from Comcast in Oct. 2005 or 2006 & we'd never go back.  We've always had great customer service w/WOW & love their services.  We have a bundle w/our internet & something else I think.

  • Comcast is the worst - while I don't have them for cable I've heard nothing but good things about WOW.

  • I have Comcast and call every time they raise the rate and complain.  WOW is not available in my area, but I've heard great things about them and I'd switch if I could save that much $ for sure!!!

  • I have had good luck with using the live chat option with Comcast.  The people on the phone wouldn't lower my rate, but when I chatted online, they applied two promo codes to my account and lowered it a ton.

We used to have WOW and the service is good, but they don't have as big of a selection for on demand type stuff.  My DH doesn't want to switch back to WOW because he says they don't have as many HD channels either.  I don't know if he's right about that or not.

  • Run, don't walk, away from Comcast!  We would switch to WOW in a heartbeat if our stupid HOA hadn't signed a contract w/ Comcast for an ungodly length of time.

My H was concerned about the HD channels too and they look like they are the same now or at least they have the channels that we watch on a regular basis.  We are not big on demand users, we have Netflix for that stuff. We normally just use if for kids stuff for M.

But it sounds like their service is just as good as comcast. I really haven't had a problem with comcast, I just can't handle how expensive they are, I feel like every month my bill goes up.

That's terrible... so you are stuck with them no matter what?!

  • Yep.  I basically called to cancel last week because we're so fed up with the low signal we've had for the last three years.  They can't seem to find a solution to fix it.  Their cancellation department was "closed" by the time I called, so we have a tech coming out tomorrow to hopefully fix it.  We're ready to go with no cable over having them as a provider.  Our only other option is a satelite dish, which we really don't want to do either.  I believe we'd still end up with Comcast as our internet provider if we went with a dish, so we're stuck either way.  We "lovingly" call them Scamcast.
  • We just switched to WOW about a month ago.  We had been doing the whole calling comcast every few months or so to get a new deal for a while.  It was getting annoying how often we had to do it - and they would never give us any notice when they were going to raise rates.  We called one last time and they gave us a pretty good deal.  Still more than we wanted to pay but not bad.  But, they basically lied to us and charged about $35 more per month than they had said they would.  Well, that was the last straw so we switched.

We're not saving much money over comcast's best deal for us, but with WOW we were guaranteed pricing for at least a year.  That alone is worth something.  We've never had a reason to call customer service so I can't comment on that.  One thing we don't particularly like is that if you have non-HD boxes, you have to pay extra for a show guide - which we're way too cheap for, so we have to go to the living room to see what's on.  Also, sometimes the HD channels can be a little glitchy.  Not enough for me to call about, but it can be annoying.  The user interface is not nearly as slick as comcast, but thats easy enough to get over.  And like other's have said, the on demand is not really as good.  But, we haven't really missed it either.

So, to sum up my novel, it's not quite as good as comcast, but for the price and of course the fact that they just aren't comcast, totally worth it.

  • That is terrible!!! I really haven't had any problems with them, except their prices, they are really the highest around. I called DirectTV too, and their prices are really good, but you have to sign a 2 year agreement with them and they didn't have one of the "must" channels for my H, G4. DirectTV doesn't have internet so maybe you could check them out for the cable side of things...

This happened to us too.  If we weren't completely sold on canceling already, the whole department being closed pretty much sealed the deal.

Thanks! The price we will be saving is worth those little things.

  • WOW is so worth it!  We love it.  Their customer service is amazing, at first they give you a 2 hour window, then you'll get a call saying they'll be there at about x:xx time and they arrive within a minute of it, awesome!

They have most of the channels that Comcast has and are adding new ones all the time.  The user interface isn't slick, but who cares?  It's still easy to figure out.  Be sure to search around for On Demand stuff, they have a lot, but it isn't always where you would think it should be.

We saved over $50/month by switching and I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
