Laundry Help - dirt, mud, sweat, sunblock, etc.

My DH just got a new softball jersey about a month ago.  After 2 days of play this weekend, it is absolutely filthy.  He already washed it once, but it is still covered with stains.  I think it is mostly dirt/mud, but there is some yellowing around the neck which is probably a combination of sweat and sunblock.  There may also be some blood thrown in here and there.

Any tips?

The jersey is white with maroon darts on the side (VA Tech colors).  It's 100% polyester and has some screenprinting.

  • Oxi Clean?  I soak a lot of things in Oxi Clean to get stains out and it works most of the time.  Actually right now, I am soaking a bunch of baby clothes that have yellow formula stains around the neck and the stains are coming out on almost everthing that I have been soaking.

Have you already dried the jersey in the dryer?  If you did, the stains might be set now and harder to get out.

This. I try to air dry as much as I can if it get frequent washes or nasty dirty when worn (ie. work out clothes, zac's clothes) because of this. In addition the dryer breaks apart "dry-fit" material over time.

I swear by Shout spray, if a particular item is really gross, I will let it soak in shout water for hours before giving it an official wash.
