Pinterest question

I'm using Pinterest just to save pages I'm interested in, instead of bookmarking.  It creeps me out that people "repin".  How did they find my pins, and can I make it private?  I'm not out there to share, I just want to remember a site about a hotel in Costa Rica I'd like to stay in or where to get tips on Italy travel, or whatever.

I feel exposedEmbarrassed

Re: Pinterest question

  • How are people finding you?  You can set your boards to private I believe.  If you're linked to FB, change your name and remove the Pinterest settings using FB Privacy.

    I'm not linked to FB.

My boards are set so no one else can pin to them.  I can't find anything about hiding myself.  I feel like one of those people who hides from the computer screen when someone pings them.  Like my mom, or Carrie Bradshaw in an old SATC episode.

  • I think that the whole point of Pinterest is repinning - it's social media, so people are sharing ideas. They can find your pins because they're searching for something in the category/topic of your pin, or maybe they found it by clicking on the "everything" page and it showed up there.

I'm not sure if you can hide them from other people like that . . . but repinning is a compliment!

I agree with this. I just started using Pinterest recently, and at first I felt very exposed and I didn't like it. Tried to find a way to make my boards private and couldn't. Ended up taking out my last name and not using a photo of me, and now I've gotten used to the public access. I definitely take repins as compliments. I would just keep using regular bookmarks in your browser if the open sharing concerns you, unless there is a way to make boards private that I don't know about.

I love it when someone repins something from one of my boards!

You can set your profile so only you can post to your boards, but i don't think you can keep people from seeing your boards.
