Anyone ever used "Chem Dry" professional carpet cleaning?

We are buying a house and I'd like to have the carpets professionally cleaned before we move in.  I just started looking up cleaners in our area and I came across a local dealer for ChemDry which appears to be nationwide.
They advertise a process that is supposed to be better (of course Wink) than traditional carpet cleaning. Have any of you used this service before?  What did you think?

Also, if you have any general tips regarding professional carpet cleaning I'd love to hear them.

Thanks!

  • I haven't used them, but my sister just did for her house.  She used them because a previous carpet company didn't extract enough water from her carpets.  She was pleased with the work they did, but she was outraged at the cost.  Apparently they charge by square foot and not by the number of rooms.  She negotiated her way to a lower price.  My sister is used to paying a lot for things so for her to be outraged by the price tells me it was probably obscene.

  • I've used Zerorez before.  They had a ridiculous radio special like 3 rooms for $99 and when they came they did a 4th for $33.  Excellent job.  I'll use them again.  If you google them, you might even find coupons.

    ETA:  They are also green.

  • We've lived in our home for 8 years and have almost-white carpet, 2 dogs, and a 6 year old boy.  I only use Chem Dry after a normal carpet cleaner made our carpet too wet.  They are all individually owned franchises.  The 2 around here do NOT charge by the square foot.  They charge by the room and always have coupons in the local coupon book.  I've never had any issues.  The stuff they use is safe for kids and dogs and it smells citrus-y, which is my favorite!  I would definitely recommend them.
