Hacking update

My Facebook account is still blocked. I managed to lock it for 24 hours and then after 24 hours, I had to send a copy of my ID to Facebook to regain access. Hopefully it will be soon. I assume the hacker can't use my account anymore to chat with people.

I was able to regain access to my hotmail account too. I am in the process of deleting all the emails the hacker had entered to reset the password. I don't know how long this will take. They went form "confirmed" to "lost".I really really hope this is IT. That the hacker can't access my hotmail anymore and those emails are gone for good. This has been going on since last Friday. Ugh.

Re: Hacking update

  • Was it just random or did someone just decide to go after you?

That's what I am wondering too.  Either way, I'm sorry that this is happening to you.

It was random. It seems to be something fairly common on Facebook. I thought I was chatting with my 12 year old cousin. The hacker is a real person and he/she  will answer your questions. For example, he/she was talking to one of my friends who knew my account had been hacked. She made up a story about a guy hitting on me at a restaurant and the hacker was like "really? you think? that's great bla bla bla" Well pretty soon, they ask you to click on something. In my case, my "cousin" asked me to see a video she made. Once I clicked, I didn't realized it was too late. They hacked my Facebook and since I used the same email for FB and hotmail, they hacked hotmail too.

So beware. If you have doubts about the person you're talking to, ask a very specific question. I never realized I was not talking to my cousin.

  • This very same thing happened to me last summer- except the 'chat' part of it.  They got into my facebook, changed my password and then my hotmail, as they are connected, and all hell broke out from there!  They were sending e-mails to my all my contacts that I was held by a gun in a robbery in the UK and please send money so I can get home and blah blah blah- they even used my DH's name within the horrible story.  It was quite alarming for some of my friends/family to receive such a scary message before they figured things out.  It took a couple weeks to get it all straightened out.  Hotmail & FB take forever to get back & forth with you about these things.  It was a MAJOR pain.  But it happens unfortunately.  Hopefully it will all be settled for you soon!!!
  • Oh Newporter, the held at gunpoint in London is a well known scam on Facebook now. They do tell this story through chat too. There is a page on Facebook for people with hacked accounts and one of them posted the conversation he had with the hacker.

In my case, they didn't ask for money but I wonder what they want to do with my accounts though. I believed they installed a software to record all the things I am typing. Now most people log in online to view their bank accounts and I bet they are after that. I changed all my passwords to sensitive websites like my bank. I reformated the hard drive on my laptop too.
