Motherfer. So we finally have everything worked out for both houses. Yay buying house we wanted. But we got a freaking curveball thrown at us.
Our taxes on our current home are going from 211 to 1000. And our real estate agent thinks we should appeal etc on good faith but I don't think so. I am happy to call to see if we cam get it pushed back so they can appeal. But I don't want to deal with this the buyer knew we didn't have tax abatement. Thoughts?

So does the buyer even know yet? An extra $800 a year in taxes is what, an extra $70-somthing a month? In the grand scheme of things so not a big deal
I always laugh on those home shows about buyers nickel and diming and drawing a line in the sand over $2k, which is nothing over the life of the mortgage. I know everyone has to have their bottom line, but come on

I agree with ppls. 1000 isn't really a lot of money in the grand scheme of things and probably not even worth the aggravation. It could be worse, like the jerz, and we know what the taxes can be like there.
paying 211 a year in taxes is criminal. you should be put to jail. wait, you dont pay enough taxes to cover your jail term even a day.

not court, but plead in front of a BRT panel. the whole process took over 6 months from the notice of tax increase to the standing in front of the panel. and they didnt repeal it to the original tax value, just cut a % of the increase. we now still pay more than any other neighbor on our street despite the fact that our house is not the biggest or nicest. terrible terrible injustice.
I know it is a steal beyond steals my whole family lives in north jersey the land of 9082039843098423 taxes.
That being said we will being paying way more when we move but i knew that would happen.
Me too!
They've been saying this for years. I expect that, yes, at some point it will happen. However we already know our taxes a ridiculously low, (we're around $1,500.00) so if/when it happens, we're not going to be shocked.
Congrats on the house Lachute!
Honestly, I would not worry about it just yet - wait until the buyers say something.. Him freaking out is not good - and I hope he's not letting the buyers agent see his 'freak out' because if they werent upset about it, or wanting something done, they will be once they get cues from him.
It's up to the buyer to confirm the taxes - what people put in Trend is typically the year priors taxes. It's called due diligence. You can't just take things in the listing for face value - you confirm them.
Unless the buyer has a high DTI (debt to income ratio) that could cause this to fall apart due to higher taxes, I would not panic.
okay info is sent over and we shall see what they say.
honestly i don't know how we would fight them, i mean the taxes are rock bottom. the house has been redone and is nicer then many on the block.
LOL ;p
Hey, if you all you suburban-ites want my taxes ($1,200) you can come live in the land of filth. I got trash EVERYWHERE, dog shiit EVERYWHERE, cockroaches, FLEAS!!!!, shootings down the block, nasty schools, and drunks around every corner. True story, I walked past a guy passed on on the street the other day and thought he was dead. And I live in what is considered a nice neighborhood, btw.
You pay more in taxes because your neighborhood does not even REMOTELY look like mine. It's horrifying, to be honest.
I dream of the suburbs, believe me. And I will have to save up the money to pay for it.
dont even get me started on property taxes...ours are $3000+ on a crap hole i couldn't resell if i tried. we are penalized for living in the area which we do. last year's 10% as well as this year's is from the mayor increasing the tax rate. new notices just went out this month increasing the actual Market Value on your property. what the "former" BRT calls "full or actual value" is still in the works....going to hit you within 2 years. the mayor likes to say he disbanded the BRT, he did not, rather divided it into 2 seperate offices BRT and OPA.
if you dont like your taxes APPEAL just for the hell of it
Lachute--congrats on the house, and i wouldn't worry at all about the buyer
Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the post to biiitch! Philly has got me down, way down lately. I refuse to give the city any more of my hard earned dollars when my house is worth nothing and my dog tracks in fleas and I CAN'T STAND THE EFFING TRASH!!! ug
Lachute, I am so happy for you and the move!
Jewels/other philly residents
call 311 or email philly311@phila.gov and report report report all trash/tallweeds/dangerous non emergency things/grafitti/drunks/abandoned cars/potholes/stray cats/ whatever .
i pretty much call weekly. the anti-grafitti folks are super fast!
you can also call your local civic association or attend meetings and they can call for you too.
This is good info, thank you. Do you think I could report a public school for their on-going trash issue? I'm sick of empty 40's and broken glass.
