? for bfing moms

this is a little long, apologies in advance if it isn't clear.  i am essentially looking to see if there is a way to optimize what i am doing now or if its working.

i am able to pump 22-24 oz/day (2x at work and once before bed).  sometimes i skip before bed depending on his routine and if i am about to pass out.  i send 18oz/day to daycare and usually get back 6oz to use for the next day since it was fresh and refrigerated.  this gives us an overage of 6-12 oz everyday.

i have been sending 2 fresh bottles and one frozen to day care and freezing one or 2 bottles every night.  does this process make sense?  i don't want milk to get too old in the freezer so i feel like i need to use some of the frozen stuff.  i'm not trying to be too greedy but i would love to keep a decent stash for him to use to hopefully get to 1 year.

what do you guys do?

Re: ? for bfing moms

  • oh, and one more question; what do you do for mondays?  use the milk pumped on friday?

  • You should consider rotating your stash. That's what I do. I had monster supply and was pumping about 30 oz per day in addition to 5 feedings at home. I was able to build a decent stash. I have dropped a session and my supply has regulated a bit so I'm not pumping anywhere near that now, plus I don't have a need. Amdplusalso I hate pumping.

So what I do is freeze all of today's milk. Then i raid my freezer and pull enough for dc tomorrow. Friday's milk goes right into the freezer. This keeps me from having to waste frozen milk. When I had monster supply I did the same thing. You're constantly using the older milk yet adding to the stash.
