Favorite place to buy sweaters?

I'm looking for a nice sweater to replace the one that lives on my chair at work because it gets too cold for this wimpy girl.  The one I have is looking more like a Saturday morning sweater so I really need to find one to replace it.  I'm looking for something fairly simple that can be worn with most everything (although I mostly wear slacks and polos or button ups so as long as it goes with that, it's probably safe).  Have any places you've seen good quality, classic & simple sweaters that aren't too pricey?

Re: Favorite place to buy sweaters?

  • My favorite sweaters are from LLBean.  They're reasonably priced and last forever.  However, I also like sweaters from Old Navy--they're cute, comfy, and really cheap.  Cheap also means they'll die after a season or two, but it lets you change it up more often.

I forgot about LLBean.  My family totally shopped there when I was little but because of that, I thought it was "uncool" once I hit high school and haven't shopped with them since then even though I knew enough about sewing and textiles to know it was quality stuff.  They have exactly what I'm looking for except in the wrong color.  I'll keep my eyes out for a little longer, but if I can't find anything else, I might go for it anyway.  Thanks munkii!

  • Also, have you tried Lands' End?  I haven't tried their sweaters but have a jacket from them that is great.

I was going to suggest that, too, after reading that you liked the LL Bean options. Lands End is quite similar.

You may also want to check Ann Taylor Loft. A lot of my cardigans are from there. They are great quality and have sales frequently.

I did take a look at Lands End and nothing jumped out at me.  We have an Ann Taylor outlet in town but I hadn't tried online.  Our Ann Taylor stores tend to carry very lightweight sweaters now and even in winter.  But I'll try online... there might be different options!

  • Ditto Lands End.  We have a "Land's End Inlet" in my town which is their way of moving off season or not quite perfect merchandise and I've purchased quite a few cardigans from them quite inexpensively.  My office sweater is one of those wrap style cardigans if that makes sense.  There are no buttons and the front has some extra fabric because it is meant to wrap around you if you want.  If you don't wrap it around you, it just looks like a shawl collar so it works either way.  I got mine in black so it works with pretty much anything.

That's just about what I have now!  It's a wool, dark charcoal one that I got for $10 at a thrift store YEARS ago... I definitely got my $10 worth out of it.  Smile

Ooh!  Thanks!  I'm going to see if by chance they have these in the store (we have one in town) and if not, I think I'll try ordering one of these!
