Poll: travel related (of course)
Seeing how many countries some of you have been to makes me jealous! I've only been to 13 & over 1/2 of them are in Africa (Niger, Burkina Faso, Mali, Cote D'Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, Nigeria) so that probably makes me weird as an American. But it got me thinking...
1. What's the most offbeat place you've ever been?
2. What's the most "regular" (think run-of-the-mill family vacation) place you've never been to?

Re: Poll: travel related (of course)
1. What's the most offbeat place you've ever been?
Probably Agadez, Niger. Amazingly beautiful.
2. What's the most "regular" (think run-of-the-mill family vacation) place you've never been to?
I've never been to Disney Land or Disney World; I also have little desire to go to either of these places.
1) Haiti - I was there a looooong time ago. I can't remember if Papa Doc was still in power or if Baby Doc had taken over by then.
2) Disney World
ETA: Reading FAIL: The most typical place I've NEVER been ... The Grand Canyon. Actually, there are probably a lot of I've never been to.
OH! I love polls!!
1. What's the most offbeat place you've ever been? - Probably Tromso, Norway. Not really offbeat, per se, but it was my first time in the artic circle!
2. What's the most "regular" (think run-of-the-mill family vacation) place you've never been to? - I've never been to Six-Flags.
1. What's the most offbeat place you've ever been? I can't think of much else, so I'll echo onesly and say Tromso. Or staying at a buddhist temple in Mount Koya, Japan (although that's not too offbeat in Japan).
2. What's the most "regular" (think run-of-the-mill family vacation) place you've never been to? I've never been to Disney World either. Although I have to admit, I'm looking forward to taking our future children there someday. I'm a sucker for that sort of thing.
Cecilia arrived 12 October 2012
1. What's the most offbeat place you've ever been? Some random small village outside of Mzuzu in Malawi. By small village I mean a cluster of five huts.
2. What's the most "regular" (think run-of-the-mill family vacation) place you've never been to? Disney World? I assume Disney qualifies.
ETA: Reading fail on my part as well. I've been to Disney loads of times. I've never been to Vegas.
1.Orongo, Kenya (spent 10 days visiting widows in mud huts off of mud roads.
2. Never been to Yellowstone, Niagara Falls or the Grand Canyon.
Did you do 1 through some sort of programme? Just curious. That sounds really heartbreaking, but probably inspiring too.
1. I guess Mongolia would be the most off-beat place I've been to...DH and I spent 3 weeks there a couple years ago. It was brilliant!
2. I'm from South-Western Ontario and I have never been further north than Toronto...it's actually a little embarrassing to admit to that considering all the places I have been.
Ooh how was that? We are considering it for our 10 years together anniversary long weekend in March 2012. We would love to see the Northern Lights - were you able to see them??
1. What's the most offbeat place you've ever been?
Tofo, Mozambique - people there really do live in huts.
2. What's the most "regular" (think run-of-the-mill family vacation) place you've never been to?
Locally - Minieurope (where they have kid sized monuments of major landmarks in European cities) totally want to go; and USA bound - Disneyland in CA. I have been to the one in FL, but never in CA. Also, yellowstone.
IN's October Siggy Challenge: Halloween Costumes
1- The most offbeat place I've ever been to is Marrakesh.
2- I've never been to the Grand Canyon, Yosemite or Niagara Falls.
Growing up in South Florida, I went to Disney every year from the time I was 4 until I was 18. When we were little, our cousins would come over from the Dominican Republic and we'd all pile in to the station wagon, the one with wood panneling on the side and rear facing seats, and drive up. It was tons of fun for six-year-old me.
1. Maybe Tamatave, Madagascar? There really isn't much there, so I don't even think a lot of visitors to Madagascar head there.
I love unusual places. Some less offbeat but still sort of unusual places I've been: Pemberton, Western Australia; Harbin, China; Inner Mongolia; Kuantan, Malaysia; Mozambique; Svalbard; Kitakyushu, Japan.
2. Until this summer I'd never been to Las Vegas. I've still never been to the Grand Canyon, Egypt, or even Stockholm (can you believe it?!).
That's actually where we went in Mozambique! (along with staying in some really tiny little places along the way)
Did you do the manta ray feeding station dive? We wanted to, but didn't have advanced cert. but we heard from other people at the dive shop that it was fantastic! At least we still got to swim with the whale sharks.
I love these polls as well.
1 I went to Coober Pedy South Australia, which is an under ground opal mining town. Everyone lives in underground dug outs b/c of the summer heat. They are cool in the summer and warm in the winter. It was amazing I'm so glad I went. It's in the middle of freaking no where there which is why most people give it a miss.
2 The Grand Canyon. My parents went, I was in AZ, but I was at a bowl game with my college Marching Band. I also had the stomach flu so I was super fun to be around. I had to see the team Dr during the game I was so sick. I also stole water from the Notre Dame football team.
Bio
See, I keep saying I want to go there, and I keep having Australians tell me not waste my time and money.
Reading fail here too!!!. I have never been to a national park.
1. Easter Island
2. I haven't been to Yosemite
I'd tell you not to waste your time or money either. It's interesting for about a half hour.
Most offbeat place I have been to is Saariselka, staying in a glass igloo in Lapland.
Most touristy place I have never been to is Hollywood.
1. Hongsa, Laos; Yuznos, Russia; Pac Ngoi, Vietnam
2. I've never been to the Grand Canyon.
Off beat? Hmmm, been to fairly standard places, I guess. Coolest was Abu Simbel, but that's not really off the beaten track pe se.
Regular places I've missed? That tough too I've pretty much covered most of middle America-- 38 States including Grand Canyon, Martha's Vineyard, blech Disney (the one in FL-- you see how engaged I was), Los Angeles, HI, Alaska, St Louis Arch, Hoover Dam, Salt Lake. The obligatory cruise to the Mayan Riviera and quality time in Canada. It was a wild childhood
.
Wait! I've got it! Never been to 1) Chicago or 2) Mount Rushmore! Ha! I knew my parents were holding out on me
!
1. I don't think I've ever been anywhere weird. I did go to a small town in Mississippi where every single person I met was falling over themselves to tell me it was the hometown of Gerald McRaney, you know, from Major Dad, I live just a block from his parents, right over there, and we go to the same church. I don't think I'd call it offbeat, though.
2. Well, I've never been to New England.
I've never been to Stockholm either, despite planning two trips there. :P One of these days?.
