Since it's a slow day, I figured I'd share my latest good news. No, it's not twins, I haven't had my first ultrasound yet... that's tomorrow.
But, I got some awesome news last week on my sister. She is having a scan done next week, but her oncologist expects it to confirm what he already knows - the chemo is working! He can tell by her bloodwork and testing her lymph nodes that the tumors have shrunk. She was supposed to have IV chemo through at least the end of the year, but because her treatment has exceeded expecations he's switching her to an oral med with way fewer side effects. This is amazing news because she has been feeling so sick the last few weeks, she was starting to question her quality of life. Now she will get her life back, she can return to teaching in the fall, take her planned vacation with her family, etc. Yay!!
Also, I broke the news to my family yesterday, since I saw them for my sister Jill's bday. I'm waiting til the end of first tri to tell everyone else but there's no way I could keep that from my family. I told my sister Shelly (the sick one) first and she was super excited. I had brought down our wedding video because they haven't seen it, so to tell everyone else, as we were watching it I paused it and said "so first comes love, then comes marriage, and guess what's next?". My BIL figured it out right away, yelled congratulations and gave me a big hug while my mother sat there dumbfounded. I think it took her like 3 minutes to get it. It was really funny. And then my mom said "but... how?" as my 14 YO nephew was sitting there with his GF. They got out of the room immediately.
Jill wasn't there so I gave her a bday card to an aunt that said "I can wait to meet you in April... Love, Baby C". She congratulated me, but seemed kind of weird about it. Then a few minutes later I was getting up to get a drink and a pretzel (we were at the Phillies game), and I asked her if she wanted anything. Jill: "are you getting a beer? If so, can you get me one?" Me (puzzled look on my face)... "Uh, no, but I'm sure Dave can get you one". I don't think it really sunk in for her yet.
Re: Happy update :)
Lori I can't even express how happy I am for you and your family that the string of bad luck (to say the least!) is turning around.
Your sister Shelly sounds like one hell of a fighter, and she's gonna beat this stupid cancer!!! And I love the way you told your family about the baby (babies?!?!?! - can't wait for that news!)
That is the great! I'll continue to send prayers that she continues to fight off those nasty cells!!
I love how you told your family! Hopefully you have another surprise in store for them tomorrow...TWINS!!
