We just had an earthquake!

That was really weird...

I was sitting at my desk and all of a sudden everything started shaking. It only lasted about 45 seconds, but everybody in my office started yelling at each other trying to figure out what was going on!

I don't know how Californians do that. Of course, Crystal will probably laugh at me because I seriously doubt any one from California would have batted an eye at that.

Re: We just had an earthquake!

  • Yeah, we felt it up here in NJ. We all stopped and looked at each other like... did that really happen?

Apparently it was right by DC and around 5.9.

Laura, you guys good down there?

  • Did any of the NE girls feel it? The news is saying that the tremors were felt all the way into Boston and Times Square.

Hope the VA Beach and DC nesties are ok since that's where it was felt the most

  • DH just told me he was watching BBC and they came in with breaking news.  Said they were evacuating the White House and Pentagon.  Craziness.  Earthquakes are not common on the East coast are they?

  • Yes we felt it up here. I personally didn't b/c I am up on the 15th floor, but people on the lower floors felt it. Crazy!

Hope everyone in the DC area is ok!

Not really. We get small ones but not usually anything this "big".

  • There was a girl on the bump who posted about it.. they felt it up in Quebec too apparently!

  • My BFF here in KS is from Northern Virginia and her mom just called her freaking out.  Now she is freaking out and can't get ahold of one of her friends who lives right outside DC.  Hopefully everyone is ok.

  • Quakes are not fun. We were in San Francisco for the '89 Loma Prieta and I remember hiding in a doorway and watching my Aunt's fridge walk across the floor from the quake.

Somehow I have been out of the state/country for every one that has hit New England/VT. Hope everyone on the EC is okay!

  • Weirdest.feeling.ever!    I'm good though!  We were in the school gym for a staff meeting.
  • Definitely felt it here in NY! I was in my office and on the phone with DH when my walls/desk started shaking. My first thought was that there was something wrong with me. Crazy!

  • Felt it here in Philly! I was on the 8th floor and everything was moving I thought I was having an episode of vertigo until I looked around at the people around me. The clock fell off the wall from all the shaking! Craziness!

  • I think everyone who lives in the eastern panhandle of West Virginia felt it, except me! Munchkin slept right through, and my house didn't even shake. Wierd, but I'm thankful.
  • I missed it.

DH works in Hoboken and texted me and said he had just been in an earthquake and I asked him if it was his own personal earthquake or if others felt it too.  I honestly thought he was nuts until my mom texted me to see if we were okay.

    Glad everyone is okay!

  • I know people in KY felt it, but I'm not sure that it made it all the way over to me cause I sure didn't feel anything!

  • My aunt is in DC and she thought, like Emily, that she was having an episode of vertigo until a couple plates fell off the wall.

The reorts right now are saying nobody was seriously injured. Thank God for that!

    This made me giggle!

Some people felt it in Indy but I didn't. Then again, we have a train track right behind my work building so if I'm in the back and a train goes by...it feels like an earth quake-shakes our tile room all up. So I wouldn't have thought twice about it.

  • Lol... you're right. I wouldn't bat an eye at anything below 5.0 buuut... A 5.9, Kate?! That's a BIG earthquake. Yes, we Californians would definitely bat an eye at 5.9... but a little rollin' and shakin' would cause a pickup in the heart rate.

    Hope everyone is ok!

  • I felt it - but I'm in central Va :) I was at the day care when it came through. I thought it was thunder until I realized everything was shaking! My kids thought it was awesome and truthfully so did I. All of the other teachers in my building were freaking out.

I'm glad that everyone seems to be ok so far.

That's true...when posted I didn't realize what magnitude it was. Here it was obviously not that strong here!

  • I felt nothing...but I *think* it happened at the time when our neighbor was coming home with his super loud truck that sounds like a jet engine, so even if there was any shaking, I would have assumed it was coming from that...LOL.

  • Kind of feeling left out that everyone else I've talked to felt something. lol

Don't worry Reenie... I didn't feel it eitehr Wink

  • That was crazy!!

We felt it pretty nicely in Columbus, Ohio. I was sitting at my desk and when I looked up I swear I saw the wall move slightly and there was a creak.

DH works on the 27th floor downtown. Apparently the windows were ratteling and they felt the entire building swaying quite a bit. He called me right afterwards not knowing it was an earthquake and was a little panicked. Considering it is almost 10 years after 9/11 and the building just rocked, they evacuated the office immediately.
