we had a 5.9 earthquake!

took me by surprise! it felt long, too.

talked to bmw over text and she didn't feel it. surprising because they said people in manhattan felt it (she is north of me). i think it was centered in richmond, va which is south of us. AK and mrsu probably felt it, too.

that's the second one in a year although the other was minor.

cell system (for calls only) is down now. thank god for texting!!

  • We definitely felt it in NY.  I couldn't figure out what was happening!

I wonder if it was set off by the earthquake in Colorado this morning.

  • That scared the dickens out of me! At first, my chair was rocking a bit, and I thought Pepper was "sharpening" his paws on it. Then I saw my rocking chair swaying. Then I noticed my tv moving. I thought it was the kids running next door (she has 8!!) or a truck (I'm on a major truck route) But I quickly noticed that it wasn't any of those things. I have a broken glass from the shaking (I'm not complaining, I'm sure people have a lot worse) and it was definitely freaky. I remember one tiny tremor as a small kid, and one that lasted 2 seconds a few years ago... But this one went on for a good 30 seconds. I hope everyone is OK. SO NYC definitely felt the tremor. I hope there are no after-shocks.

Oh sure blame Colorado ;)  I actually wasn't aware we had one during the night till just an hour or so ago.  Apparently I slept through it.  Not surprising since when I was a kind in California I slept through them all the time.

  • That is so scary.  I'm glad everyone is ok.  A lady I work with's sister lives in DC and was driving down the interstate when it happened...yikes

  • I'm a little surprised that we didn't feel anything over here in East TN, but no one seems to have. I guess it went more north. Hope everyone is okay!

  • So B and I figured out why we never felt it. We had just pulled out of his parents drive way and went down a small side road that is being resurfaced. So we were already bouncing around as it was LOL. After we got done running errands we back tracked our route and figured it out LOL.

I was getting antsy to get home thought because Raven and Puddin were home alone. A couple of people that live near me were saying they had pictures fall off there walls and vases fall out of window sills. I was just worried that there might be some broken glass they could have stepped on. All is well though!!  I actually seriously feel cheated because its all everyone is talking about it and I didn't experience it at all.

  • I saw on FB and Twitter that people in Ohio and North Carolina felt the tremors.

  • I can't say the cat was acting any different. The dog seemed extra whinny and up my behind.

My mom said that her parrot had picked some of her chest feathers and her dog had messed in his crate.

YUP!  I felt it...i was in elkridge, md.  It was really odd wasn't it?  I was sitting at my desk and my monitor starting bobbing back & forth like a bobble-head.  I was like WTF?  My co-worker and I looked at each other all confused and I was like,
"grab your cell phone, i think it's an earthquake!!"  LOL, that's all i could think to say....Confused

Needless to say, I have "create an office emergency plan" on my to-do list for this new job now....

They say it was felt from NC - NY.  H's cell phone was down for about an hour or so.  And they evacuated bldg's in DC.

Hey, Eden, being from Cali, did you experience them a lot?

Yeah....I live in NC and I definitely felt it! I had just sat down in the break room where I work and all of a sudden I felt the chair and table start shaking....I felt the floor vibrating my feet. I thought maybe the coke machine beside me started going crazy....I was looking around like, "wth?!" . lol. I didn't know what was going on....a couple minutes later someone walked in and explained what had just happened. It was crazy!
