*Bella* or any cooks!

A girl on my local bump board has a daughter with a LOT of food allergies. Any suggestions for things she can make? She must avoid peanuts, garlic, dairy, soy, beef, pork, bananas, tomato, sweet potato, tree nuts, oats, all beans, and peas. Rice milk is a milk substitute she can have.

Thoughts?

  • Wow, no suggestions on my own, but that stinks! There are are a lot of food allergy blogs. If you just google "food allergy blogs" lots of things come up. Like this one.

    How old is the child?

  • That is tough.  She would have to stay away from most prepared foods.  There are a lot of dishes she could make.  She may have to sub out garlic for onions in some.  There are lots of pasta dishes with broth, oil or cream sauces she could use.  I guess I would stick to the basics of meals of a protein (chicken or fish), a veggie she can eat and then a starch like regular potatoes, rice or pasta.
  • That poor family!  Most food allergy blogs I know of are more for gluten-free eating, but that wouldn't work for them.  Sounds like salads and veggie-heavy meals are good options.  Pasta with homemade pesto - can be made without nuts and garlic.  Maybe lots of grilled chicken and fish, man this is hard!  I would ask over on What's Cooking - I'm sure there can be more helpful.
  • She can make coconut rice pudding, apple bread, apple sauce, apple cake... I would suggest telling her to pick up a vegan cook book as well.
  • Poor thing!

I agree with all of the suggestions above.

Chicken, turkey, seafood and fish are all good options.  Has she tried other meats (buffalo, elk etc...?).  Those might help provide some variety.

I think she's mostly trying to figure out ideas of things she can make with such a limited menu. Like soups/casseroles/etc :)
