REAL reality TV?

What do you think are the more realistic reality tv shows vs the ones that are so scripted --

example -- Kardashians is clearly scripted in so many areas

I know that just about all of them have some scripting/re-enacting involved -- but I definitely find there are ones that are more insignificant to the shows production than others.

Re: REAL reality TV?

  • Some reality TV is entirely scripted (eg The Hills, Laguna Beach) and some, like the Kardashians, seems to be only partially so. I think contest shows have a lot of contrived situations but aren't scripted (The Bachelor series).

Regardless, no reality shows are real, the producers are always steering the plotlines.

I read the books LC wrote (LA Candy, Sweet Little Lies, Sugar and Spice) and it was very interesting how she portrayed the producers in the books. I wondered how close it was to the reality TV life she led.

  • I think at this point everything is pretty scripted.  And there are also shows where perhaps they aren't "scripted" per se, but the characters know to pump up the drama and how to create situations that would never occur in real life.
  • I think even the ones that aren't scripted are still edited to death and made to seem just as fake as the scripted shows.
