Re: Are we all okay?
I was in the apartment (17th floor) alone. All morning the baby has been really moving around and making me nuts. It started to feel like the couch was moving and I got really nauseous and I couldn't believe the baby was that strong. Then I noticed that the doors and pictures were swinging around and the rocker in Little P's room was going back and forth like crazy.
I put on my sneakers and grabbed my cell and purse and went into our interior bathroom. I can see the tv from the bathroom, so I flipped on NY1 and the Cyrus Vance/DSK press conference was on and all of a sudden, all of the people in the conference got up and started to rush out of the room. The anchor broke in and said that apparently there was some sort of earthquake and she would be back with details.
By then it was over. I called DH. He and Little P were having lunch with friends. None of them felt it!! He even asked me if I was sure!! Doofus. The people at the next booth over said they didn't really feel it, but that they noticed that the lights were swaying.
So weird and freaky. I didn't know if I should evacuate, but then I thought that I really didn't want to be on the street if buildings started losing bricks and stuff.
So, now I have lived through 2 major blackouts, tropical storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, terrorist attacks and earthquakes!! Cripes, that is some list. ETA, I also have been on an airplane struck by lightening, in building that was on fire, and caught in two different rip currents and almost drowned.
I'm okay. Our building was shaking pretty hard. I almost lost the TV; it was teetering back and forth. Bookcases were rattling and a-shaking. Ran into a doorway in our interior hallway just in case.
Just checked in with Richmond and DC friends. I have heard back from those in DC where it wasn't so bad. Not heard yet from Richmond friend. I'm hoping she's okay.
I was in my office when I felt my chair move. I quickly gathered my bag and along with 2 coworkers ran outside to an open area on 1st avenue. We stayed for about 30 minutes until security said that it was ok then we headed back in.
For me, better safe than sorry.

Just got word from Richmond friend who is okay but a bit rattled. Otherwise, it seems like all is fine. Quake lasted about a minute there.
We're okay.
I was at Avery's pediatrician (she has a minor rash on her face, and they ended up giving her the immunization shots while we were there too..boo!) and happened to be changing her diaper in the bathroom.
So, the door is rattling like crazy and I said "Okay, we'll be out in 1 minute" and seriously, it wont stop rattling. I assumed it was a crazed toddler just playing with the knob, until I came out and everyone told me what happened.
LOL
We were home and Sasha just went down for her nap, not more than 15 minutes prior. I noticed the chair and table shaking, then the lamp in the living room. It was so freaky! I texted DH and he said they felt it too. Crazy stuff!!
And p.s. Pokey, you've led a dangerous life!
Bubblegum Explosion
For those who didn't see my FB post...I was on the comp (either bumping or FBing, who knows?) and DD was bouncing like a crazy girl in her Jumperoo. DH walks down the hall towards us and I say to him, the floor is moving...is Sam bouncing that hard? When she stopped and I saw the light in the dining room moving, I knew something was up. I said to DH "I think we're having an earthquake", very nonchalantly of course. lol And he was like "Ya think?". So, I looked out the front window and of course the whole neighborhood was outside and say "Holy crap, did you feel that?". Thank goodness it wasn't serious and we can laugh about it now.
