RP: Applied for a job. Questions.

I applied for a job last Tuesday. When is an appropriate time to follow up? I asked this on MM and the general consensus was not to follow up at all, if they want you they will call but everything I've read online about job prep says follow up. What does 9-5 think? Also, my grandmother worked for this company for 30+ years and just retired last summer. She gave me some names for who to call (wasn't listed on the job posting). Is it appropriate to mention that she said to call that person? Is follow up by email a no-no?Thanks ladies! I wasn't even job hunting and came across this posting that I think would be a perfect fit for me. As an added bonus, I later found out it comes with a 30%+ pay increase (I already knew I was underpaid, but wow not by that much!). I meet all of the requirements and I really don't want to mess this up. Any advice appreciated.

Re: RP: Applied for a job. Questions.

  • You can & should call the person identified by your granmother & you should absolutely mention her name when you call.

Other wise I wouldn't call.  Here it's OK b/c you have a connection.

If you can get grandma to forward your resume to the appropriate person that would be best.

  • It would be best to have your grandmother contact this person or if you have an email address I would just send a quick blurb and attach your resume.

Regarding the follow-up, it really depends what type of job this is, did you apply on-line? in person? how many candidates do you think applied? If you are 1 of 100 then don't bother, if you get through the screening process then they will contact you.
