Help!

I am lining a round box with fabric. I have the liner already partially attached to the inside of the box, but the diameter is just a little too small to stretch over the rim like I want it to. Aside from tearing it out and adding fabric, is there anything else I can do? Maybe attach something to the inside rim of the box to make the diameter of the box a little smaller? Here's a pic of it so far.

Re: Help!

  • Could you possibly add ribbon or contrasting fabric to the top to make it look like you meant for it to be that way?

  • Its not the height of the fabric against the inside wall of the box, its the diameter of the box compared to the diameter of the liner. I tried to stretch the top of the liner over the rim of the box, but the liner isn't big enough around. Its off by about an inch.

  • Changing the inner diameter of the box isn't going to change the outer diameter of the box, so that's not going to help your liner fit if it isn't big enough to stretch over the rim (and that's what you want it to do). If you just want it to meet the rim, you could try adding some padding to the top of the inner box- but, an inch off the diameter is a lot to be off on a liner- you'd need 1/2" of padding all the way around to make up for that.

I'd just rip it out and start over, but, I suppose you could just cut off the walls/tube part of the liner and make a replacement tube that fits properly.

  • I would tear it out and redo. I usually end up regretting the "quick fix" and not liking the final product as much.
