any Chicago Nesties on today?

H and I are in Chicago for a week almost visiting with his cousin and her husband... the rest of our family comes Thursday.  It's rainy and gross today... we had originally planned to go for a run on Lake Shore Drive and then do the beach.  But it's going to be a rainy day :(  Any suggestions of fun indoor activities in Chicago while it rains?  We're on our own from family until dinner tonight...  We are staying in Rogers Park/West Ridge (?) area, so Northen Chicago.

Any advice for the week much appreciated :)

Re: any Chicago Nesties on today?

  • It is definitely gray (but a pretty sky) today!

I would head downtown and spend a day at the museums.   The Field Museum, the Shedd Aquarium, the art museum, Museum of Science & Industry...

You can get to all of them with public transportation, too!

  • Thanks!  I have heard of Shedd's Aquarium.  Is that downtown?  Which museum is on the lake right by Navy Pier?

We ended up going to the Levere Memorial Temple, Sigma Alpha Epsilon's National Headquarters... DH's fraternity form college.  We took a tour, it was fun!  Evanston is so pretty.  We kind of just putzed around Evanston/Skokie and then came back to Rogers Park to get groceries for the rest of the week.  Hopefully the rain is clearing out now... I love this area!

  • The art museum is the closest to Navy Pier-  but the Field Museum, the Shedd, Addler Planetarium are all just slightly south (Roosevelt Rd, right by Soldier Field, also right on the water) & MS&I is further south, in Hyde Park.

I love Evanston.  We were kind of hoping I would get a job at one of the universities near there!  You should see if anyone is playing at SPACE (1245 Chicago, Evanston); it's behind/part of Union Pizzeria.  It's an extremely intimate music venue (only holds 250 max);  I think you can get half price tickets for less popular shows on goldstar.com, too.

  • Have fun in the windy city!!!  I love Shedd, Millenium Park, and Navy Pier.  I have always wanted to go on a boat tour on the river and have never been able to!!!
  • DH and I got engaged at the Shedd aquarium, so I am partial to that. :)

  • Thanks, girls!  We are having so much fun here!!!  We were able to sit on the beach yesterday morning in Roger's Park where we are staying- I love the water in the lake, so refreshing and relaxing!  We went to a Cubs game last night... very fun, loved Wrigleyville!  And it was cool to look up a the old manual scoreboard right before we left to see our O's were actually winning, too.  We went to this bar downtown, Citizen, with our cousins after the game... they were at a party to celebrate his graduation from nurse anesthesia school.  Today DH and I wanted to go for a run along Lake Shore Drive but everyone's a little sluggish to say the least lol... it was a late night of open bar.  Ha!  We're waiting for my in-laws and DH's aunt and uncle to get in and more celebrating with family.  Should be a fun weekend.  I think we're going to go back downtown to the Miracle Mile area/museums tomorrow with my in-laws.  I'm not leaving without doing Navy Pier!
