Everyone OK?

We just felt the effects of a 5.8 earthquake down in VA a few minutes ago... anyone else feel it?  Everyone OK?

Re: Everyone OK?

  • we felt it here in Cincinnati. It spilled my water on my desk. I am up 10 floors so that could be why but still freaky. Hopefully everyone is alright.
  • We had a 5.3 in southern Colorado this morning, right by the NM border.  We didn't feel it here though.  Crazy that the US had 2 earthquakes in one day!

  • My mom just called and told me this!  That is scary.  Hope all is well with everyone!

  • I just read about this too!  Living on the West Coast (including several years in So.Cal) I've been in a couple quakes and I know how scary they are. Hope everyone is okay!
  • I didn't even know Virginia was on a fault line! Hope everyone is alright!

  • If I'm not mistaken, the entire east coast is pretty much on one techtonic plate, so it makes sense that all the states would feel it.

It's crazy how much the plates are shifting lately! AR/MO sit on the New Madrid fault line and we've had a ton of activity over the past year or so.

  • Wow, MB, you felt it?

Actually, I just read that reporters with Obama in Martha's Vineyard felt it.  I didn't feel anything, but I'm OK with that.  Hope the DC area ladies are OK!

Hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes...makes me a little uneasy!

    Pregnancy Ticker
  • I pretty much slept through it, i felt a little tipping or something but i thought it was just my weird pregnancy equilibrium acting up. Matt was on the couch by my side and I was kind of napping. He said it was an earthquake and I was like 'are you sure it's not just a truck passing by?' he said 'no, I'm pretty sure this was an earthquake...' it shook our house for a minute and alerted the kitties, other than that we're fine. Matt's dad works in DC though and we're waiting to hear from him since everyone is evacuating. We're more worried about this hurricane though, apparently she's gaining strength and planning to sweep up the coast towards us. we have to work though, so I don't think we're leaving unless they call for mandatory evacuation.
  • We felt it in Harrisburg! It made me a little uneasy.
  • I'm on a bus to allentown so if we felt it here, I didn't feel anything do to an already rattling bus. However, my DH is in NYC and said they had some tremors and had to leave the building. Everyone is okay though.

  • We felt it here in CNY. I work in the facilities dept. At a hospital so I stayed by my phone waiting for the barage of calls . No damage reported here. I know Mary posted on FB that the cell tower by her office appears to have fallen....
  • I felt it here in Georgia. But, it was just slight shaking/movement.

  • I don't think I felt it.. I think we were at the grocery store. But being from SoCal, I don't tend to get shaken up (hahaha) by earthquakes anyway.

Hope everyone close to the fault is okay.

Congrats to both my TTC buddies, Amberley18 and sb2006 on their beautiful babies!
  • We're okay.  Kirk and Amanda (dbucks) are okay too.  Amanda and I are at my house bc train lines aren't running right now.  Our whole office complex was jacked up seriously, we were in an all company meeting and all of these people FREAKED out.  The buildings are cracked and stuff was falling out of our stairways, so we'll see.

I guess the National Cathedral was hit really bad too.

  • I felt here in MA too..I thought I was having a weird dizzy spell or something.

Oh my gosh, Mary. That sounds really scary! I don't know what I'd do if I were sitting in a meeting and all of a sudden: CHAOS.

I'm glad you guys are ok!

  • I didn't feel it, but I witnessed it.

Either our house is really sturdy or my loveseat is really cushy, because I was on the computer and the dogs were sitting on the back of the couch. Then the front screen door started rattling and the dogs started barking (it rattled about 15 seconds). I thought it was just an animal at the door (our neighbor's beagle likes to come harass Benny when she gets loose), but there was nothing there.

I got in the car about 10 til 3 and it was all over the radio about the earthquake. My mom was in Morgantown, WV and she said it felt like someone was behind her shaking her chair, and the overhead lights were swinging.

  • Thanks for the concern ladies!:) I'm glad everyone else is ok.

We were actually in the car on our way home from NJ. We didn't even notice when it happened (I think we were in DE at the time). We came home to some crooked pictures and others had fallen off the walls, one broken champagne glass, but that's about it! No biggie:)

  • I don't know why but I'm a little upset I missed it.  I was driving when it happened... and completely oblivious to what they were talking about on the radio.  At about 2:00, I heard them talking about preparing for earthquakes in Pennsylvania and I remember thinking why do I have to prepare for a earthquake, that's silly... LOL Stick out tongue

  • I felt it here in Virginia, near Charlottesville. I have never felt one before and it was scary. It made me feel dizzy for hours afterwards!
