At dinner last night a couple of things annoyed me.
1) Why do restaurants only hand out one copy of the night's specials for like every three people at the table? Make more copies!
2) If you clear our overly-saucy plates away mid-appetizers, why would you not replace them with clean ones? And if we ask you about it, why are you asking us how many we need (and not because you think we want extra, but because you apparently don't want to bring more than the bare minimum)? Are you really that hard up for plates?
3) Similar to #1, if we ask about ordering dessert, again why only bring two copies of the menu for a table of seven? I know most restaurants do this but I find it really annoying.
What are your restaurant pet peeves?

Re: Restaurant pet peeves
Silverware. When there is only 1 fork, 1 knife and i use them both for salad/appetizer then place them across the plate to indicate I'm finished, then the server touches the silverware and puts it back on the tablecloth for me to use with the entr?e. Just bring new silverware! Dont touch mine and then place it on a dirty tablecloth. If I wanted to reuse it then I would place it off to the side not on the plate to be removed.
This is most frustraing in a nice restaurant and I just feel like the server is being lazy as I'm certain they were taught to replace the silverware.
I can't stand it when I make online reservations, then I get a call asking me to call back to confirm my reservation.
It is a total waste of my very valuable time (lol). But really.
I cannot stand it when there are specials and they aren't written down. I often think waiters talk too fast and restaurants are loud and I don't always hear what they are saying. Plus I am a visual person. I need to read and re-read something before I make a decision. I agree- write them down and distribute 1 copy of the specials PER PERSON at the table.
All of these are huge pet peeves of mine.
Another one is at casual restaurants when the server refers to me/husband/whoever as "guys." That drives me nuts!
All of these are so right on. I hate when they automatically bring you another soda refill without asking. I try to limit my soda intake, so if I drink the whole glass, I switch to water for the rest of my meal. I refused one the other day, (he just brought it over before I'd even finished the first glass), and the guy was p*ssed. Sorry, guy, but if you'd asked, I would have said no thank you. Now you wasted it. I get that they're trying to be proactive, but I'd prefer they ask.
Yes!
I'm more tolerant than I thought, haha. What is listed above is definitely annoying, but they aren't truly pet peeves of mine. I actually find it funny when the waiter comes over before I've taken a bite to ask how things are.
What I do find frustrating is when they never come back after the initial 'how are things' and you have to flag them back down if something is wrong or if you need a refill.
I get annoyed at having to download PDF menus from websites... Grrrrr.... Just print your menu on a webpage... it's not that hard!
My pet peeve is just food that sub-par. We went to a trendy "gastro pub" in Cambridge last week, first, it was expensive, second, everything I tasted I could have made better. (I don't mean to sound obnoxious, but it was true...)
It drives me crazy that so many restaurants don't put their hours on their website or make them really hard to find. 99% of the time I am not on your website to read about your food philosophy. I am either looking for your menu, phone number (also often too hard to find), or hours.
