Welcome wagon?

Isthere still a such thing as the welcome wagon, where they bring you free goodies? When I bought a home in Cedar Rapids snout 12 years ago they called and then brought me a basket of freebies. We just moved into our new home and I was just curious.

  • I know someone came around when we moved in, but I honestly can't remember the name of the lady or the organization.  It did take a couple weeks before they contacted me, though.

  • It depends on where you live. When we bought our house in WDM, we just got a packet in the mail with coupons for our "area", which included places in Ankeny and the East side, and mostly types of places we had no use for anyway. Not really very useful.

When my sister bought a home in Urbandale last fall a Welcome Wagon lady kept calling her, wanting to know when she could come over and bring her whatever welcome materials it was she had. My sister kept asking her to stop calling, explaining that she grew up here and didn't really need to be "welcomed", but the lady persisted for a while.

So, yeah, you'll probably hear from the WW, but who knows in what form.

Yep, my parents just bought a house in Urbandale and heard from the lady pretty quickly!

  • We moved to Altoona in May and a lady came to our house a month or two later.  She basically welcomed us and gave us a packet of coupons to places in Altoona.  She also asked if we had kids and needed any school or church information.

  • We had someone come to the house in November 2006 when we moved into our WDM home.  We were only there about 3 weeks when she showed up, with brochures/info on local stuff.  Mostly just brochures, but a few coupons and freebies.

  • We just bought a house in Ankeny this past February and had the "welcome wagon" come within a month.  I just remember it was a really nice woman who came and she gave us a bunch of coupons and brochures for businesses around the town and answered and questions we had.  It was very nice!
