Like pp said, it depends on the fabric, whether or not I need the room darker, and whether or not the window has blinds or sheers (not shears...I never keep scissors in my window ;P).
Properly lined curtains really do lay nicely and look more expensive. They look nicer from the outside, too. I like my windows to look uniform from the outside.
I agree and will add that lining them also keeps fading of the main fabric to a minimum. We have blinds, but the fabric still fades.

LOL, I would spell sheers wrong! I live in Washington........so sun fading fabric, never crossed my mind. :P That is defiantly something to consider when making curtains.
