Hey girl.  Are you still gluten free?  How are things going?  My bff is having some terrible anxiety issues and I thought of your situation and wondered if it's something she should try too.  Feel free to PM me.  Thanks!

  • For the most part!  I definitely have cheat days/moments, but I bet I've cut 75% of the gluten from my diet (as compared to what I was taking in before).  I also make an effort to eat more protein in general.  I swear to god, I truly think it has cured me.  I have not had a panicky moment since the week I started.  Like I told you before, it could very well be in my head - but I dont care.  I think just knowing that *I* can have some control over feeling the way I do, makes me so much less anxious.  I love the idea of changing the way I feel just by altering with I eat, and not having to depend on a pill to make me feel normal.  Because in my twisted mind, if a pill is what controls my mood.. it freaks me out more.  I like to be in control (which is a HUGE precursor to anxiety for me).

Tell her to try it for a week.  She should feel a difference! I'd encourage her to take it slow - look at what she's eating now, and see just exactly how much gluten she takes in.  I bet she'd be surprised.  But, for me anyway, going in 100% was just not going to happen.. like I said though, I've noticed a huge change just by cutting the majority of gluten from my diet.

ALSO - are you familiar with 5-HTP at all?  It's a natural supplement.  I've been doing a lot of reading on it, and from what I've learned about it, the results are amazing.  The only place you can find it around here is Whole Foods, and I plan on picking some up hopefully this weekend.

  • I highly recommend this book - The Mood Cure by Julia Ross.  It's an easy read about how what you put in your body can completely change the way you feel mentally.. it's where I originally got the info about 5-HTP.

  • Awesome!  I'm so glad to hear you're seeing results.  I'm just like you w/the control thing.  I may not have control over much in life, but I know with absolute certainty that what I eat affects how I feel (on a very exaggerated scale in my case, unfortunately), so I maintain very tight control over that.  I'll pass this info on to my friend. Thanks so much for responding!

There is no cure for a crazy like you!  Stick out tongue

I have a friend who did the 5HTP and it really worked well for her!  I'm a ball of anxiety lately...especially because I feel like I could lose my job at anytime.  Good times!  ;-)
