I live in a hole - road closure question

Is I 29 from Omaha to KC (no I have no clue where it was closed exactly) still closed?  I've searched around the internet and all the sites seem outdated.  Or I'm just hoping that it's open and I missed the announcement.

Re: I live in a hole - road closure question

  • Def. still closed and probably will be until next spring...by the time the water goes down around Sept. and I'm sure there will be a lot of the interstate that needs replaced...

  • Crap.  Thanks for the update :)

  • Yeah, we just drove to and from KC this past weekend and it is still closed.  FYI-If you follow the detour signs as marked it takes you much further out of the way than you have to go-all the way over to I-35.  Once you are on the 34-E, you can take the 59-S and that hooks back up with the I-29 around Rockport.  It still took us about an hour longer than normal, though.
  • Yep, Shannon is correct. You can go south out of CB, but you HAVE to exit at the Pacific Junction/Plattsmouth exit. Closed from there south to Rockport. You might as well take 75 south instead of getting off the interstate and hitting 75 at Plattsmouth.

This may be a better route to take than what I mentioned above.

Yep, you went WAY out of your way. You were fairly close to my house when you were taking your little detour. Big Smile

  • went at end of july and hwy 75 south and cut back east to st. joe right when you cross into kansas seemed fairly speedy route
  • Last weekend we took 75 to Hiawatha to St Joe to KC on the way down, on the way back took I70 out of KC to Topeka and got on 75 in Topeka and took that all the way home and that is the way we will go from now on!  Cut about 45 minutes out of the drive.  So I'd take 75 all the way to Topeka and then get onto I70 there  and take that into KC.  Just bring some cash for the I-70 toll!  :)

Good to know!  My mom lives on I70 so that makes it easy.  And I despise 2 lane highways, which I assume is what I'd be taking once I get off 75.   Thanks!!
