Looking in from the front door. Kitchen to the right, hallway to the left. The banister needs to be removed since it is not safe for kids. Pink carpet is going to go away for pretty laminate flooring.

Very dated kitchen. Hoping to change out pulls and counter top (possibly the transformations kit) to give it a face lift.

Ugly Bathroom #2 - Both of these will have the wall paper removed first and painted then we will evaluate flooring and a new vanity in the future.

I don't have any really good pics of the bedrooms. They are pretty good size with good size closets. We are getting really excited to tackle this place.
My hardest thing to decide on is what color to do the flooring? Lighter? Darker? It has the same wood tone from the cabinets for trim throughout. I'm not sure we will have the $$ to replace all the trim and I'm not sure I want to tackle painting all of it. I'm planning on painting the 2 side walls a green color with blue accent walls. (green will go with my burnt red color in the kitchen and the blue accents I want in the living room). So hard to decide colors!

Awesome, I'm so glad you posted pictures! I was thinking about you yesterday and about the condo. It looks like it has some great spaces and plenty of room. I can't wait to see the updates you make, I'm sure it's going to look fantastic!!
It's definitely hard choosing colors for walls and such, but especially floors! I have no advice on floors, I think I'd be lost!

Something to think about is if you plan to replace the flooring in your main living area, you'll have to pull up your baseboards anyway. You could easily sand and paint your baseboards while they're off and then you would only have to worry about taping and painting the doorways. You would at least have your main room done and you could tackle your other rooms as you get around to it. I think white trim makes such a big difference and it wouldn't limit you as far as flooring goes
My floors are currently clashing with my orangey cabinets (although I think anything would) but I plan to switch to white cabinets at one point so I didn't really think about it too much. Are you keeping the same stain on your cabinets? It will help me in picturing the flooring. I'm so excited for you! You guys will have a blast with your new home.
I like how the kitchen looks out into the living room area. It's so much more useful that way. Plus down the road, you could always add a bar to give you more seating.
In terms of flooring - I agree with Mrs. Jaay re white baseboards. With the baseboards and cabinets as is, I would probably go with a lighter color flooring to keep everything from being super dark.
In the bathrooms, you mentioned taking down the wallpaper. I think that and replacing the cabinet pulls and the toilet seats (with white) will make it look much more updated.
Just take your projects one at a time and I'm sure it will look great!

We will for a while. I think maybe someday we will update them but I'm thinking that we may just put new doors on (someday). The cabinets are in great shape and solid wood.
If I were to do white trim, where do I stop? Do I paint the door trim and the doors? Every window, door, and room have the wood trim. Here is a link to the Picasa album with the bedroom pics too. I don't think we have the budget to replace all the trim now.
Butting in here, we bought our house as from a contractor who had bought the house and flipped it. It was built in the 50s or 60s and had that really dated look to it. The contractor painted every single piece of trim in the house, the door frames, the baseboards, everything. He also replaced all of the carpet and tile in the house with basic beige. The difference in the house is amazing. I was surprised by what a huge difference just painting the trim made. It is a big project to paint it all (we are going to have to redo all of ours because the contractor didn't do the best job in the world). But I think the difference makes a huge change in how dated things look.
If I were you I would just do the main room/kitchen/dining area and the doorways that face out to whichever rooms branch off of the new floors. I would just do it a room at a time (bathrooms and bedrooms) after that whenever you have some spare time.
We have to redo all of ours next year too and I'm sure it's going to be a tedious process but we have some chipping going on. Boo.
I totally agree. We have off-white trim and even going from off-white to white made such a difference. We're just re-painting the trim as we paint each room. Doing it all at once would be too much.
This will be occurring! Hopefully it can happen either before we get really bad snow or in the spring. We need another GTG soon!
