Help me organize my photos/scrapbook

I am really struggling with this one and I was wondering what other people do in regards to their photos and kids' scrapbooks.

I really want to start a photo book or scrapbook for each of my boys so they will have something to take with them when they are adults. I like making shutterfly books, etc but I want something I can keep adding to over the years. I've been making some pages on picasa to get printed to 12x12 size and put in a scrapbook but I'm not sure if this is too much work or not.

My mom suggested printing off the best photos from every month and saving them in an envelope then at least I would have the photos ready for when I wanted to make an album.

I do a good job of keeping photos organized on a monthly basis on my photo sharing site and my blog but I just don't know how best to go about transitioning those into an actual scrapbook/album.

What do you guys do?

Re: Help me organize my photos/scrapbook

  • I organize our photos by month.

At the end of each month I go through and make a new folder for "best of [month].

At the end of the year/their birthdays, I make a photo book out of their "best of" pictures.

Picking out the good ones monthly saves me time at the end of the year while picking the very best for the book.

  • I actually use a program from Creative Memories that helps me organize my pictures.  It lets me put keywords on all of them and I can rate them with stars (5 stars for favorites down to 1 star) which is nice when I want to just find my favorites.  I always feel like I'm getting rid of my kids if I delete any pictures of them! LOL

For scrapbooks, I also use their scrapbooking software because with two little ones running around, I can't get the papers out each time.  I've just recently started doing a page each month and then do a page for special occasions when I get home.  Like for the state fair this year, I just started their page but kept it seperate from the August page.  My goal is to give the girls a scrapbook for Christmas each year.

  • I like the Creative Memories Memory Manager and the Creative Memories Storybook Creator.  You can view the "virtual tour" here and see if it will fit your needs. The first link is for the tour of Storybook Creator and the second link is for Memory Manager.

If you decide to go the "traditional" scrapbooking method, you will print out only the BEST photos each month, keep them organized, and then  you can either print out 12 x 12 pages from your Storybook Creator software and insert in an album, or go a more traditional route and I would highly recommend purchasing a "kit" where everything matches to keep it easy on yourself.

When you do your journalling, I like to do it this way:  Journal "to" your boys.  For example, instead of Easter, 2011, write "John, look how handsome you look in your Easter outfit, 2011."  So it is a written record of your love as a mother.  Your son's "history," written down next to his photos.  I have 2 boys and a daughter and this is what I did....but I waited until they were older and I forgot so much, so good for you if your boys are young!

You can contact me through my website if I can help you with any other questions, which I would be honored to.  Blessings to you, and lucky are your boys!!

Wow! You are awesome. I am totally checking that out- it just what I need.

Have you ever done anything like a laptop crop party?

  • I do my best to keep the blog updated.  Two fold purpose, just in case my laptop crashes, which has all our pics saved on it, at least the blog has the photos on it.  Secondly, I have in progress blog books.  There are websites to print the blog posts into nice book form.  I think mine are on blurb.com.  I haven't printed yet, but I have one started for each year I've been blogging.  I figure now that I have two kids, I'll just print two for each year.

I also just started selling creative memories, but didn't want to say that in my original post for fear it would be considered advertising.  I only became a consultant because I am so very passionate and excited about all of the products and creating books for my girls.  However, wanted to answer your question about the laptop crop party.  I usually have one of these with a bunch of friends every 2 months, and they are a complete blast!  If you'll send me your email info (either here or my site : http://www.mycmsite.com/sites/moes ) and I will let you know when we have our next scrap party.
