Is $100 a lot?

Facts:

For the rental of a room

At an orchard/winery

For two hours

For a bridal shower

Room holds up to 60 people

Ambiance galore

The place you originally wanted is unavailable

Invitations need to go out this weekend

Shower is Oct 1st

Opinions:

We need to get our butts in gear if this shower is going to happen. Three of us are hosting, and while I think the above list is a good deal--I almost booked over the phone when I called for the rate--another hostess texted back "No!!" But didn't offer any other ideas. I refuse to have it at this person's house, and mine isn't big enough.

Thoughts?

Re: Is $100 a lot?

  • Eh - I think it seems pricey for only 2 hours, but if I loved it, I would still book it. I think the atmosphere of a party is important to it's success!!

Are you able to get in early to set-up and stay later to clean-up? Or would you have to pay for more hours?

  • If it were a cinder block room where there wasn't good parking, $100 seems crazy high.

But, for 2 hours in a great location (that is letting you bring your own food, which I imagine is a sticking point for out of home showers), $100 is just a little high.  With your deadline, I think it brings the high ratio down.

    Book it.

  • I'd book it.

It sounds like you're not able to find any good alternatives, it meets all of your needs, and you're splitting the cost with a couple of other people.

Maybe ask the naysayer if she has any other ideas.  When she says no, book this one.

  • I would totally jump on it.  I'm trying to find a neat location for my cousin's bridal shower next spring.  Where is this winery?  What a great idea for a location!

  • I would also book it. The place sounds lovely and accommodating, which are both important. The price is a bit more than I would personally want to pay, but not ridiculously so.

  • I would book it. If your hosting with 2 other people it will only cost about $34 per host.
  • Sounds reasonable since it fits all the important criteria.  I paid $150 for a hotel "banquet room" a few years ago...and the linens were filthy, one corner of the ceiling was caving in, and the chairs were falling apart.

    DO IT! :)

    It's Robinette's. The room is in the winery/red barn. It's $50/hr.

The other two hostesses say they're not paying.

Whoa... that's no good.  Where do they want to have the shower for free?

  • I'm sorry! That sucks. Why do people have to be so difficult!?

If I could afford it on my own, I would probably just go ahead with the room anyway. And then when everyone at the shower is raving about the place, feel silently smug about it. But I am immature like that! Haha.

Tell them to cough it up or they can figure out where to have it.

Indifferent  What the fluck?  It's $33.  Geez.

And I thought $100 sounded like a good deal.  It sounds really nice!

Not paying at all? Do they expect some place to let you use their facility for free?

Yes, as a matter of fact.

Then the "No!" hostess discovered that the place she had my baby shower (for free) was now charging, and it will be at least $70.

I'm with Hoek... probably just going to book the dang thing.

  • Tell them that you will pay for the room and they can pay for the food ;o) Then they aren't paying for the room they don't want HA!

Crossed my mind more than once... :/

  • That's so frustrating! It sounds like you found a lovely place. Have they done any work to try to find a place to host it?

I second the idea of having them pay for the food...it's all about splitting the cost right? Angel
