Resume Question

I am in school working on my masters. Would you add this to a resume? If so, how would you clarify that is in progress?

Re: Resume Question

  • I would put date you started your masters then in progress. OR you could put expected Graduation date. I'm curious to see what others say, because I put in progress maybe that is not right.

  • List it the same as you would your other education and in the grad date area put "Expected degree Month Year"

  • I'm almost finished my doctorate. Because it's one of those degrees that confers the instant you defend (assuming you pass Big Smile), I've been listing it as ending in October 2011.

If you will finish some time before the graduation ceremony, and if this is a degree that you want sooner rather than later, then you might want to list your completion date. In any case, I think saying "in progress" gives less of a sense of when you'll be done than giving an actual date. If the degree is professionally relevant, then you might want to let prospective employers know when they can expect you to have it.

This is what I have always done.

  • I put my graduation date when I was in school.

ie: Start date - Graduation Month,Year

  • Yes. I would put MA, XYZ, ABC University. Expected graduation date May 2012
