Smack the crazy out of me

Last year I had a bad flight and have now turned into a BIG scardy cat when it comes to flying. We leave for Hawaii (looooong flight) in a few days and I am so dreading it. I got some anxiety meds from the dr and hope they help. But come on, I"m a grown a$! woman. Just tell me to grow up and send me good thoughts.

Thanks!

  • Take distractions- angry birds kills lots of time, get some rest if you can, and enjoy Hawaii!!!!
  • I'm sure everything will be fine and I hope the meds help you!

    Have fun in Hawaii!

  • there are bars in the airport and booze on the plane.  i say take advantage of both if you need to ; )  hopefully the anti-anxiety meds will work for you.  i was the same way with the dentist, and they worked well for me.
  • The flight to Hawaii is the most boring flight ever. Once you get over the water, you have 4 hrs to kill.  Drink & read a book.

Then once you start to descend, it is so beautiful to see all the coral reefs, and gorgeous scenery you will be plenty distracted. Have fun in Hawaii!!

Try Sydney to Perth.  You've already flown about 20 hours to get to Sydney.  Then you get on another 5+ hour flight.  I am a weirdo who enjoys a plane ride & that was even miserable & boring for me.

  • The same thing happened to me long ago and DH makes fun of me. Mine is mostly a fear of throwing up on a plane and how it makes others look at you. (It's happened, it's not pretty). I would grab dh's hand and freak out if we had turbulence.

but on a flight from mexico we had a really rough ride. Now DH is scared to fly! It made me feel a little validated about it.

Sorry, that probably wasn't helpful but I wanted you to know you're not alone. I hope the meds help and like someone else said, a drink might help too. At least with the payoff of Hawaii you're going somewhere fabulous! They payoff may help ease your fear. I also find that trashy magazines help more then a book, for some reason I can't focus long enough to read a book. TV or a laptop movie on the plane helps too.

  • I'm right with you.

I hate flying, and would be so dreading a long flight too, I get antsy and claustrophobic.  :/

The whole flight to Australia makes me want to poke my eyes out!

  • Thanks, ladies. I'm a bit more comfortable hearing that it was a boring flight. Crossing fingers mine is pretty boring too.
