I had all intentions of crafting it up for DD's second birthday. We are throwing a party for our family for her and I am stuck on a theme. Any great ideas that aren't as mainstream as mickey, elmo, etc. DD#2 has taken all my brain power.
Re: 2nd Birthday Help
My daughter's 2nd birthday was monkey themed.
At the time, gymboree had a monkey gem line that was cute, so she wore an outfit from there.
I made her this hairclip to match:
And I decorated store bought cupcakes like this:
I also went to a teacher's supply store that is open to the public and purchased the monkey theme bulletin board stuff and used that to decorate about the walls. I got banana cut outs too that I added to it and also used with a skewer to label foods. This decor was moved and is still hanging in our playroom 2 years later, so not a waste!
I ordered stickers and tattoos from ebay with colorful monkeys on them for the kids. I cannot remember what else went into the favors....
I made the invites myself with free clip art and printed at home.
all in all, a very simple theme!
Her third birthday was generic princesses and her fourth was butterflies.
I will preface this with I do not have kids, so how these would play out I'm not entirely sure. A few thoughts that came to me were a cute circus theme, flowers? I don't know that flowers exactly is a theme but you could easily make flowery decorations in whatever color you wanted. Finally, not specifically girly but underwater theme, decorating with fish and lots of blue and goldfish crackers are coming to mind.
Pinterest might help with inspiration as well.
It's a dinosaur eating puppy!
I did a Very Hungry Caterpillar themed party for DS's 2nd b-day. I made the cake out of twinkies, it didn't tast great but I also made cupcakes with butterflies on them. I've seen a lot of VHC themed party stuff on Pinterest lately so maybe it's becoming too mainstream.

Pinterest has tons of ideas for birthday parties. I can't throw more than one for one kid, right? I just like throwing parties!
My nieces was something along the lines of "too sweet" for her first birthday. I made cupcake toppers that looked like swirled candies, she had cupcakes on bunting, etc.
